In the southeastern U.S., river cane was once used for everything from weapons to baskets. This is our interpretation of the funnel style fish trap my grandson and I built.

Measuring distance can be done with several methods without a measuring device. Here's an easy way to estimate the width of a river or ravine you may have to cross in the wilderness. All you need is a stick.
