typicalbooks 01 - Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker - Horror Book Review
I cover books I have read that have taught me something about my own writing, or were printed in an atypical way. Sometimes, I just have something to say about typicalbooks.
Today we have a bookshelf tour - or the start of one. I'd like to think of it as the clutch of books we have in the house as they are like that pile of gold a dragon guards, no?
This is a stack of books that get shuffled rarely, and are too dear to fit in a normal shelf.

The How Do You Read A Book Tag is an original tag by Julie at The Hungry Bookworm! A very thoughtful tag is was so happy to be tagged in!
See the original video here: https://youtu.be/21NyYBoqNXU
~ The Questions ~
1. How do you go into reading a book? Read reviews? Spoilers?
2. Do you take a book by its face value?
3. Do you read a book as the author intended?
4. As a reader or reviewer do you read a book differently knowing you are going to review it? Do you venture into other genres to review?
This is an open tag so feel free to do it as well, and let Julie and I know when you have so we can watch along. #howdoyoureadabook
If you have read this far, since I don't have a community tab yet I want to note I have no lipstick on here for forgetful reasons - if I looked washed out, that is entirely why!

I picked up a lot of books on my summer travels! Ira Levin, Brian Keene, Tim Lebbon, Tim Waggoner, Tim McGregor, and if I could come up with another 'Tim' horror author, I'd have bought their books too! And not to mention, Nicole Willson, who is not named Tim but alongside the aforementioned McGregor sent me a novella in the mail; both of which I read and loved.
Coming soon: Standalone reviews of 'Lure' and 'Wasps in the Ice Cream' as well as a second video for 'The Shadow Dancers of Brixton Hill'

Do you use a ranking app? I picked the top ten books from 52 I read according to Goodreads.
Narrowing it down to 10 books took a bit of thought, and I was glad to use Photoshop to sort them visually!
An overview, the sorting, the ranking, then afterward I list each book for your future shopping list ~ enjoy, and let me know if you hit your reading goal or plan one for next year!
00:00 - Ranking the books I read this year
00:49 - Not every book is on Goodreads
01:23 - What raking app do you use?
02:13 - The Ranking begins with 52 books
02:28 - Removing books that are not horror or true crime
03:01 - Moving books into categories
04:10 - A book is a book
04:20 - Deliniating horror, extreme and in-between
04:41 - Piling books the e-easy way!
04:59 - Notable omissions
05:41 - Finally sorted, now to pick out ten books
07:04 - Ranking my top ten books
08:35 - The top two books I read this year
08:58 - The top 10 in order
10:35 - The top ten books of 2021 expanded
12:58 - Do you rate your books or plan to next year?
13:43 - All 52 books: A recap of each title

Today we talk about finding emotion in the many faces of horror stories. As noted, there are books and films mentioned here in a shortlist of fiction that elicited some emotion in me. That said, I have a fairly flat emotional response in general, so. while my reactions are tempered, they can be there, bubbling under the surface.
An original tag by Juan @Plagued by Visions ~ thank you for tagging me! See the original video here: https://youtu.be/Obe0q4CW71I
