Pulse of Life at Damascus Opera May 24, 2021
The Opera House is in central Damascus, at the Umayyad Square (roundabout). It is framed by the hills of Mt Qasioun to the north, the lovely Tishreen park & Syrian television to the west.
While it is further away from eastern Ghouta than, say, the Old City--which was hammered with terrorist mortars daily (see: https://www.globalresearch.ca/us-backed-terrorism-in-syria-a-first-hand-account-of-the-use-of-mortars-against-civilians/5401390 ), terrorist bombings did reach the Opera House, and beyond.
In 2018, the supremely talented violinist and composer, and founder of the all-women Mari Orchestra, told me that the year prior, terrorists bombed the area with about 37 bombs.
"The students stayed inside for 8 hours, you couldn't go outside, we didn't know when or where the bomb would fall. One student went outside and was killed.
Here we lived five difficult years."

A first class ticket costs 2000 Syrian pounds, I was told last night. A second class ticket, 1500, and third class 1000. The dollar is currently 2500 Syrian pounds. No, Syria's poorest can't afford this, but not because of the price, but because of the brutal sanctions on Syria which decisively affect the currency/hyperinflation, an intended consequence of these sanctions against the Syrian people.
Yet, the fact that productions like this do still occur in Syria, and had a decent turnout last night, is another indication of the West's failed change of government (for hairy al-Qaeda democracy-bringers) project.
And just before the presidential elections, seeing this concert was moving and poignant.

Qusay al-Radwan, one of the Syrian Arab Army soldiers who participated in liberating the Kuweires airbase, spoke briefly about why he became a soldier.
[location context: December 15, 2015, al-Zahra'a, Homs, at the site where days prior, on December 12, terrorists car-bombed and suicide-bombed a residential neighbourhood (Syrian media reported killed 16 civilians and injured 54 more. The same neighbourhood was targeted on December 28 by another terrorist car and suicide bomb combination, killing another 19 civilians, according to SANA. http://sana.sy/en/?p=65059).
One of those martyred was the mother of Alaa al-Hamwi, a brave Syrian Arab Army soldier who was one of the defenders of Kuweires airbase. Qusay is a friend of Alaa's and he spoke with me on the 2nd floor of the very badly damaged home of Alaa's family, opposite the bomb site.]
