This week I tried doing my first garden time-lapse. I had meant to upload this on Monday, but I was having difficulty with editing software. The plants grew a lot this week, with most plants showing signs of pre-flower. I wasn't expecting my plants to start flowering so soon, but I'm happy. So far, one plant had to be removed due to it being male. There may be more, but so far the other 5 plants seem to look female. I will upload next week's update on Monday. There are benefits to drying the whole plant and benefits of selectively drying individual branches so I wanted to discuss both! It all depends on your specific situation so let's talk about the benefits and drawbacks of both methods. When you keep your plant intact and dry the entire plant at once, the process is a bit more streamlined. You don't have to invest time or resources getting string or a lot of hangers. You typically won;t wet trim and instead perform a dry trim after harvest. Drying the whole plant at once will allow your buds to dry more slowly which should extend the senescence process and lead to a smoother more flavorful smoke. When you cut your plant into individual branches and individual stems, you are able to selectively harvest each bud at peak ripeness. Harvesting individual branches also allows you to utilize your drying space more efficiently; the stems can be arranged more compactly to save space. Another thing I love about drying individual branches and stems is that it allows the buds to be defoliated to easily and efficiently. By holding a branch upside down and twirling it between your fingers, you're able to easily wet trim your buds without over handling or damaging them. The final benefit I notice from selectively harvesting branch by branch is that it creates a more even work load. You're able to space your work out more evenly rather than be overwhelmed by having to trim multiple ounces all at once.
