Noru was the strongest storm to hit Philippines this year. Tropical Cyclone Noru (Typhoon Karding in the Philippines) formed over the western Philippines Sea on 22 September and started moving west toward northern Luzon Island. On 25 September, Noru attained super typhoon strength. Noru had sustained winds of 121 mph and gusts of 149 mph. Super typhoon blew out of the northern Philippines on 26 September, causing floods and power outages. Typhoon Noru struck Vietnam’s central coast early Wednesday. The typhoon weakened a little prior to making landfall, but was still equivalent to a high-end Category 2 hurricane with winds near 109 mph. Noru damaged homes, cut power and caused warnings of landslides and serious flooding. More than 800,000 residents have been forced to leave their homes. Noru was forecast to continue moving inland through Wednesday (28 September), passing over Laos before hitting north-eastern Thailand on Thursday, 29 September.
