It all started back in 1963 when McDonald’s decided to sponsor a television show featuring another clown named “Bozo.” The show was “Bozo's Circus” and it featured an on-air personality named Willard Scott. McDonald’s was pleased to see that their sales went up by 30 percent. So, Willard Scott became the first portrayal of the corporate mascot which, as you can see looked kinda different than what you see now. For the first run of national ads, Mr. Willard Scott was dropped because he was considered too heavy to play the part of an extremely active clown. Don’t worry.
