I have filmed a rather sad, but true story about us, a 70/Yo American guy and his 70/Yo high school sweetheart married 52 years ago in a Christian Church in California. Now have both retired to do missionary type work in her home country the Philippines. Going back over the last nine years, we made many 18-hour flights twice a year to give desperately needed aid to orphanages and poor people was expensive, frustrating and harsh at times, but fulfilling as only one who has done it would know. I have made this short film about 10-days in the Hell of a 14-day Quarantine at the Holiday Inn Manila Galleria - One Asian Development Bank Avenue Ortigas Center, Pasig, Luzon 1655 Philippines, June of 2021 where we had a sickening hard time. 1. The food was not very good IMHO but we were forced to eat it anyway, because the Holiday Inn staff said it was the rules.., theirs or the PH Government we never found out. But they charged us nonetheless for every bit of it. We were not allowed to have Grab or others bring food in, even if it was professionally pre-packaged food. I did argue my case but to no good, but in the end we survived. 2. The windows were locked shut, and friends this was no joke, it was claustrophobic. The A/C was not bringing in fresh air but appeared to recirculate old air. It was stifling, can you imagine? 3. No one came to change bed linin or clean the bathrooms, which was not disclosed to us until we got there and had no other choice but to do it ourselves. We did pay the bill anyway, because the staff was genuinely nice and really, I could not blame them as culprits. 4. The bed was large and wonderfully comfortable. 5. The shower was good, strong, hot and dependable day and night. 6. The staff was Filipino/Filipina, so very warm, friendly and helpful when possible. I think they did their best with what they had, but could have had better training about the Covid-19 Pandemic, for sure. 7. I actually loved the beautiful solid Philippine Mahogany furnishings, doors and trim throughout, and the fabric of furniture was somewhat dated, but good quality. 8. None of this pandemic is the fault of the Philippine Government, nor is any of it the fault of President Duterte who was forced into his job through the will and vote of the people. Back in 2015 Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte addressed Filipinos in a more than one-minute video published on a Friday, saying the public should not vote for him in the 2016 national elections if they are already content with the problems besetting the country. If you are happy with the continuous corruption, sprouting of crimes, don’t vote for me. If you are happy with the high prices of food and electricity, don’t vote for me.
