Hi guys, just bouncing around fly-over country, escaping another Michigan winter. Remember: "10 minutes a week is all we ask" :) Check out The Shanty Boat Beagle Adventure here on this channel. Lots more to come...
Howdy fellow adventurers, it's time for the next installment of "The Beagle Barge Beagle Build." In this episode, we take off the ugly old vinyl siding (so not shanty boat) and put T&G cedar on. As always, we have a false start or two, but we finally figure it out enough to get 'er done.

Hi everyone. Here it is, mid-March and still snowing. I'll never be a true Yooper (that would take 5 generations of Finnish blood) I can't stand it, the Super Shanty must get started. I mostly cleaned out the inside, and started removing the built-in furniture. It feels twice as big as the Shanty Beagle was, not only more over-all length, but the cabin is bigger (16X8.6) should be plenty of room in this one.
I'm experimenting with trying to make a few bucks with the channel. My goal is to do it without blatant E-Begging, being whiny, annoying...basically as un-intrusive as possible. We're all here on YT to enjoy ourselves, funds just being a necessary evil to keep the adventures rolling.
If you still read books (that's short for if you're over 40 years old) please take a peak at my ever-growing and always changing "Back Water and Back Roads Adventure Book Store" (link here)

Howdy! fellow adventurers. In this episode, Wavey and I spend another day exploring the Muscatine area. We launch the scooter in search of a random small town with an interesting name (we found one). We also pass through another Mississippi lock and dam. It was a beautiful couple of days out on the rivers.

Howdy! fellow adventurers. In this episode, Wavey and I visit an island in the Mississippi River where people live on mostly hand built houseboats--year round! That's not easy in Minnesota. We also pass through more lock and dams and take in the fleeting beauty of fall. Thanks for coming along and keeping us company.

Howdy! Fellow adventurers. Wavey and I have something very special for you this time. A friend of the channel took us on a once in a lifetime pilgrimage to a place every shanty boater only dreams about--Payne Hollow. The Hubbard's Ohio River hide-a-way has been recently purchased by a nonprofit, after many years in disrepair. Let's hope more folks who've been inspired by them can visit their home in the future.

Howdy guys and gals, I guess it happens to all of us eventually. We get out there in the world, ready for an adventure...and we go and get sick. I usually takes a lot to knock me down completely, but this one managed to do so. I'm still not entirely sure what happens (no it wasn't "C") my kidneys and/or liver freaked out for a bit, possibly a combination of the extreme keto diet I've been off and on for years, taking 800 ml of Advil for months, and an evening whiskey drink all combined at exactly the wrong time--like a perfect storm. My digestive system rebelled!
After not getting better over two weeks, and going to bed every night wondering if I might wake up dead, I decided the only thing I could do was park the boat and blast back home to find out what's going on (I certainly wasn't able to enjoy being in paradise). I got into an urgent care right away and had a full spectrum of blood tests done. Apparently there was some residual evidence that my kidneys and/or liver had a freak out moment, but nothing lasting, no damage and I'm otherwise very healthy for your average 50 year old guy. I lost 10+pounds and decided to just keep it going (down to 200)
I guess we're not immortal after-all. :)
I'm headed back down to Florida here soon, should be back on the slow boat adventure just after Thanksgiving...with a few interesting stops on the way. Thanks for sticking around, as always. I guess you're stuck with me for a while longer :)

Howdy fellow adventurers, I'm feeling blessed lately. A couple episodes back in this build series, you'll see that we picked up a pontoon boat in Kentucky (Winter 2020) for a decent price, to harvest a 2007 Honda 50 HP 4-stroke for the Beagle barge. What I didn't mention was, when I bought it...I backed the pontoon into the water and tried it out (after paying for it of course!) and it was having some issues. The water pump was shot, and one of the cylinders wasn't firing. I was hoping it was just a carb issue (most likely) I took a compression reading after getting home, and all the cylinders were more/less equal (a good sign) so I replaced the impeller and hoped for the best.
Then the snows hit...
As you see in this video, it was (probably) a carb issue (common on outboards that sit for a while) and she came back to life. She still isn't running "perfect" but running pretty darn good...and that's good enough for me. Usually internal combustion engines run better as they get used as intended--often and consistently.
Well...this outboard is going to get a lot of use between Superiorland and Florida this fall and winter.
