I am going to start by giving an overview of NLP, Hypnosis and Meditation – and then talk about the importance of knowing how to manage flow states. A flow state being an optimum state of consciousness in which you perform at your best. As an NLP Coach what I do is to help you to access and mobilise your inner resources such that you are able to attain your desired outcomes. I am not so interested in what you do or what you think – as much as mapping out the structure of how you do what you do. The challenge for Traders is how to get in the zone – that is, how to get into a flow state. A flow state is defined as an optimum state of consciousness in which you perform at your best. The foundations of flow are: 1. Know your personality type – this is your genius. 2. Identify and follow your passion. 3. Understand what motivates you? That is personality type, passion and purpose. To be a good Trader you need the right personality type. Not everyone is suited to being a trader. If you have extraverted feeling as the dominant function in your cognitive stack then it is unlikely you would even be attracted to trading. It is very important to understand your personality type. I use the Myers Briggs 16 personality types and NLP Meta Programs. Once you know the hierarchy of your cognitive functions then it is just a matter of aligning your trading strategies with the way that you naturally think. For example, I am an INTJ. That means that my lead function that I use to get into flow is introverted intuition. This is also a perceiving function that is used to gather information. My secondary function or co-pilot in the car model is extroverted thinking. This function is used to make decisions based upon the information gathered by the perceiving process of introverted intuition. The tertiary function which is like a ten year old in the back seat is introverted feeling which I need to acknowledge but I can not give it too much power. And then the fourth function is extroverted sensing. If you have a trading coach (not an NLP Coach) but a trading coach from whom you take advice on actual trading then it would be a good idea if you knew their personality type - because their way of strategising could be quite different to how you would naturally think. I find that Roger Hamilton's Wealth Dynamic Profile is useful because it uses two dimensions from the Myers Briggs and it fits in well with NLP Meta Programs. So how do you get into the zone? What stops you? And what interferes with your trading strategies? I will help you to clear negative emotions like fear and greed, limiting beliefs and negative mindsets such that you are able to access and mobilise your inner and outer resources. NLP & Hypnosis Weight Loss Tutorial: Part 1 In this NLP weight loss tip I am going to share with you my insights on food cravings. Now I am not a naturopath or a dietician but then you don’t need to be to understand the basics of food cravings. And so on... NLP & Hypnosis Weight Loss Tutorial Part 2 Back in the eighties I used to mix with a lot of New Age people who were vegetarian. I was at a yoga centre in the kitchen and I watched as a woman came in to prepare food for dinner. It was her time to cook the dinner. So she whips up pasta and a sauce. A bit of low fat salad and that was it. Half an hour later a dozen of us sat down to eat. She said, “I love pasta”. But to me it looked like she liked the convenience of preparing pasta. It was easy. Anyway, immediately after the meal, she and others started reaching for the chocolate. With comments, “I like chocolate”. And you watch their faces – and it the same look that drug addicts get when they anticipate their favourite drug. The only reason they were reaching for chocolate was because the main meal was deficient in nutrients and now they went for chocolate because it was a source of fat, and also the chocolate provides feel good chemicals that would ordinarily have been created from a nutritious meat based meal. And so on... NLP & Hypnosis Weight Loss Tutorial Part 3. Okay, now fast forwards to last week. A woman came to see me to get help in losing weight. She was on a low fat diet. She ate WheatBix and banana for breakfast or had low fat yogurt. So by mid morning she was hungry. Then she snacked on protein bars. By the afternoon she was snacking on chocolate. She thought that she had food cravings but in reality she was nutrient depleted – and she had misinterpreted the body sensations to mean cravings rather than hunger for real food. This story is so typical of the women that I have worked with over the last thirty years. Anyway guess what she ate on the weekend? Bacon and eggs for breakfast. Did she have food cravings on the weekend? No. So why did she eat WheatBix, banana and low fat yogurt on week days? Because this is politically correct. When she had bacon and eggs on the weekend did she have food cravings? No. Did she snack on protein bars and chocolate on the weekend? No. Why did she eat bacon and eggs on the weekend? Because she wanted to give herself a treat. On the weekend she trusted her unconscious mind enough to direct her towards healthy food. The problem was that she had got it all back to front. So if you want to overcome food cravings and binge eating – if you want to lose weight – then start by giving yourself real food. Food that contains all the nutrients that the body needs. So what should you eat? Well just look to traditional groups that sustained themselves for generations. Look to people who are well proportioned and ask them what they eat. Ask them what they ate as a child. Ask them what their parents ate. Trust me. If you give your body what the body needs the food cravings will disappear. I talk from personal experience and from working with many people over the decades – and also from a network of Naturopaths who once were vegetarian vegan but all are now meat eaters. They show you a complicated looking series of numbers and state that if you can solve it that you must be borderline genius. 7 + 3 = 41021 8 + 6 = 21448 4 + 1 = 354 9 + 5 = 41445 14 + 2 = 121628 18 + 7 = 1125126 If you accept the presupposition then you will never solve the problem. So what is a linguistic presupposition? A presupposition is the condition or element in a statement which has to be true in order for the sentence to make sense. So, the cat sat on the mat. For this sentence to be true there has to be a cat and a mat. Let’s say there is a real cat – and a politician tells us that the cat sat on the mat. If we accept that statement as true then we have created in our mind a thought - that there is such a thing as a mat and a cat – and that the cat sat on the mat. (But what if there is no cat – what if there is no mat?) The mat may or may not exist in reality. And the cat may or may not in reality have sat on the mat. If you accept the deception – the fraud of 7+3=41021 then where else have you accepted deception? Where else in your life have you been lied to? Do you accept what your politicians tell you? Do you accept what the Banks tell you? Do you accept what your religious teachers tell you? Do you accept what the books on history tell you? Do you accept what the Media tells you? Or do you become a majority of one and learn to challenge everything for the truth? Now NLP gives us a number of tools to do just that. One of our primary tools is the NLP Meta Model.
