Truck Camping: 2018 Spring Bushcraft and Woodsman Meetup in my Toyota Tundra
I got invited to an awesome gathering of Bushcrafters and Woodsmen at Fish Pond Lake in southeastern Kentucky. I have to admit I was pretty nervous as I have zero bushcrafting skills but they welcomed me into their meetup and I had the best time. Everyone was seriously nice and genuine and just wonderful people. I got to hear some amazing stories and even learned a couple of survival skills like the bow drill and flint and steel fire making. There were a potluck dinner and amazing conversations. The event was family and dog-friendly as well. We had a little bit of rain but nothing that lasted very long and it really helped to cool off the warm day. If you are interested in survival skills, bushcrafting, or woodsman activities I would appreciate it if you would go over to the channels below and give them a look. If you like what you see, subscribe to them. Here are the links to the channels

I picked this collapsible tub for doing dishes while I am car or truck camping. I like the fact that it does not take up much space and does not leak out of the drain plug on the bottom. I have seen some reviews on some other ones that say they immediately leaked but this one did just fine.

In this video, I visited the Mogan Ridge West Trail in the Hoosier National Forest. This is a sister trail to the Mogan Ridge East Trail that I attempted to do in a previous video.
This trail is a 12.7 mile multi use trail and for the most part does not have much elevation to it. There is a couple of spots right around mile 4 that has mild elevation but for the most part it is a really nice walk in the woods. I would say it is easy to moderate.
Here is a link to the US Forestry service website about the trail: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/hoosier/recreation/hiking/recarea/?recid=41576&actid=51
There were a couple of running streams which could serve as water sources.

This weekend, I went on a backpacking trip to my usual stomping grounds the Charles C. Deam Wilderness. I got to camp and hike and backpack with a great group of fellow Hoosiers and we had a fantastic time. The video of that trip will be out shortly. During the trip, I sat down with Brian Carlson of Carlson Adventures to learn a little more about him and how he got started backpacking and hiking. This is the first episode in a series of podcasts that I will be doing in the future featuring Indiana Hikers, Campers, and Backpackers. My hope is to help people who are thinking about starting up with this hobby/sport understand how others got started and what is available to do in Indiana.

This trail is located in Brown County State Park near Nashville Indiana. It is the largest state park in Indiana. The trail head is located near Ogle Lake and it is a 3.5 mile loop. It has one shelter house on the trail but the rest is winding single lane hiking with only moderate elevation gain (100 feet or less).

I really enjoy this trail because it is well maintained by the Hoosier Hiker Council. It also is an moderately easy trail. On this day the weather was sunny and warm and perfect for a nice relaxing day hike.

This past weekend, I took my kids on a day hike on one of my favorite trails in the Hoosier National Forest. The Pate Hollow Trail. This trail is located near Bloomington Indiana. The weather was very sunny and about 63 degrees but very windy. It was a great day to be out in the woods with family. I highly recommend this trail

On a recent trip to Colorado, I spent a week camping on a mountain and got my first use of the Fire Maple Star X3 Cooking System. I purchased this system myself and I have to say I really like a lot of the features and the design of it. It is similar to a competitor but it has a few key things that separate it. In this video, I am using it for the first time and showing some of my favorite features. Thank you to @FIREMAPLE-GEAR for another awesome product. If you are interested in the stove, please consider using my affiliate link below to purchase it. It does not cost you anything and it helps the channel

The weatherman said it would be 22 degrees at night so I decided that would be a good test of my winter loadout. I headed back to the Deam for a Solo Overnight Hammock Camp. I brought my Dream Hammock Raven on this outing with my Hammock Gear Zero degree top quilt. Because it gets dark now at 5:30 pm that meant I was going to be doing some night hiking. I had a great time on my own and got to see some beautiful fall colors again. The peace and quiet were welcome as well.

To add to my ARB 2500 x 2500 Awning awesomeness, I also purchase the awning room that attaches to it. This will be a critical piece of gear for my road trip out west this summer. My plan is to overland and truck camp as much as possible and to have a nice bug free cool environment will be essential to maximum enjoyment. In this video, I show me setting it up for the first time and although I made a few mistakes, I think it is relatively easy to do. It is important to take your time with the install and not rush. I purchased the awning and the awning room on Amazon and here are some affiliate links:
