How has Christianity changed from the time of the last writings of the apostle John to the present? And what do these changes mean in the life of those who are disciples of Jesus Christ?
Christ said he came to “fulfill” the law and the prophets. What did he mean? Jeff takes you on a journey through the book of Matthew to gain new insights into the many ways in which Christ “fulfilled” God’s purpose as recounted by one of the gospel writers. We can understand what Christ meant by “fulfilling” and this has great significance in determining how we are to walk with our God. Are we also to “fulfill the law?”

How did the division occur between the Church in Jerusalem and the Church in Rome? What were the issues that caused a separation? Christ, the mediator between God and man, warned his disciples about those who would teach contrary to his commands and institute human traditions. Paul following in Christ’s footsteps admonished those in Corinth to keep the Holy Day. Was it Passover and Easter? Or was it Passover or Easter?http://www.cogwebcast.com

Spirit of Truth
God’s Spirit loves the truth. And, it is this Spirit of the Truth that is given to all those who love God and keep his commandments. How do we know this? Jesus in talking to his disciples before he died, reassured them that they would not be alone. He promised them that they would not be left as orphans. Why? Because Jesus’ Father would send them the Spirit to comfort them. The Spirit of Truth would be their helper, their advocate, before the Father. So they could walk with God. And the disciples needed to know this, as their world was about to be turned upside-down. They were about to be witnesses to the truth of the resurrection. And, it would be the truth, even if no one else would believe it.
Is God’s spirit of truth convicting us of the truth, as it did the disciples almost 2000 years ago?

Fuzzy Theology: Do You Know the Scriptures?
A recent poll in the US showed that a majority of people believe in God and love the bible. But, most are “fuzzy” on the details. In fact, they often believe incongruent and conflicting things about the scriptures.
Yet, the scriptures themselves claim to be the Word of God and the source of the truth, so if we believe God, then we believe that the scriptures must be consistent. So how do we avoid walking in the fog of a fuzzy theology, that is not grounded in the truth?

Whether we have the blessing of fellowshipping on God’s Holy Days in a place he has chosen or whether we are home alone, God gives us all a command. During these special times of year that God sets apart as Holy, we have been given a command to rejoice. But sometimes this is not easy! And as we celebrate we need to consider God’s admonition that “everyone” should rejoice. There is a responsibility to care for the needs not only of our family, but of our servants, the foreigners, the orphans and the widows. God’s festivals are a blessing as we rejoice in God’s goodness. But they are also a duty.

The apostle John, writing at the end of the first century AD, warned Christians of church leaders who were rejecting John’s authority and the traditional teachings of the apostles, and even expelling faithful brethren from their congregations. Jeff Patton looks into scripture and the history of the time to add important information about the major changes in doctrine and observance that took place in the gentile Christian church beginning at the time of John’s writings. This important information about church authority is for all Christians who are looking to understand and practice the “Christianity” of Christ and the apostles.

Christians are sometimes confused by the term Judeo Christian. Judeo Christian does not mean Jewish Christian or Messianic Jew, so what does it mean?
Let me explain what Judeo Christian means, for those who are without background in the topic; the words Judeo Christian are most often used to describe the biblically based religious, moral, and ethical heritage of certain western societies. But there is a more complete definition of Judeo Christianity:
A belief system and lifestyle founded upon the principle of Sola Scriptura (by bible alone). The Holy Bible, in its entirety, (Hebrew and Greek scriptures) is a complete and divinely inspired compilation of books written for revelation, instruction, and reproof.
2 Timothy 3

The Power of the Spirit
We have seen in Genesis that the Spirit is not a person of a “trinity,” but the power of God – God’s spiritual resources. It was by His Spirit that God created the universe and brought light into the world. The scripture explains that the Spirit is the power that gives us the desire to do what is right. It helps us discern between good and evil. And, it guides us along God’s path and gives us the wisdom to do God’s will. In the future, God will judge the world by his Spirit of truth. Do you have God’s spiritual resources?
There are many gospels in the world proclaimed by a plethora of religious teachers. In fact, the scriptures warn us that there would be false gospels. There were already false gospels being preached during the time of the apostles and our day is no different in this regard. So how can you discern the true gospel that leads to a right relationship with God? Jeff Patton begins to delve into this vital topic of, “What is the gospel of truth?”
