Why Sprinters Should Prioritise Relaxation Over Training Hard | The Great Athlete Tip
Relaxation is Power and tightness is the enemy of Sprinting. But to attain relaxation, it must be practised. It's not attained as a by-product of hard training (which seems to be the driving myth at the moment). Hard training solidifies tightness which will compromise sprinting and endurance training. Running is generally a skill to be practised. As much as we have run shortly after being able to walk, the modern world and its' pressures compromises an athletes body and compromises an athletes movement. Anxiety and stress causes tightness in an athletes sprinting and raises the chances of injury. It also shortens a sprinters stride and compromises power. So how do we incorporate relaxation into your training? Well , it starts with the arms. Be-Activated, the muscle activation method I use actually demonstrates how the arms can be the main driver for the hips. Once muscles in the hips switch off, then the workload gets passed up and down the body eventually to the extremities such as the arms and they become the main driver for the hips. This leads to the arms being overused and tight during physical exertion. Tight arms will also seep up into the jaw and face. All of this is wasted energy and will hamper your endurance. Endurance is as much about energy conservation in the body as it is to do with physical fitness training. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxrAATkcU2w
What a race by #ElaineThompsonHerah in the #100mfinal. What I was impressed by was how she built her race. Not the greatest start but it was how she transitioned into full speed which was amazing. Her pick up was patient and she didn't stand up too quickly. This was what gave her the foundation to run away from Fraser-Pryce at the end.
Disappointment for #DinaAsherSmith but the interview afterwards laid bare the topsy turvy preparation she had leading up to #Tokyo2020 . Keeping the injury practically a secret did not help her in my opinion. Too much pressure and the conflicting information from doctors didn't help either. But she'll be back.

"Training Hard" is a phrase bandied around the health and fitness realm and also the sport culture. The "training to failure" and the "one more rep" mentalities dominate the righteous. The great athletes of our time talk about training hard as key to their success. Well these icons have been known to instinctively do things like "train hard" but not really explain it well enough for the rest of us. They misinterpret what they have naturally set inside of them. What they do do well is spend a lot of time doing their sport - perfecting their craft. To be good at something takes time - but not necessarily training hard. These guys are just indulging in their passion. No hard work about it.
Most people interpret training hard as something they do not want to do. It's western way of training that's got out of hand. Most of us understand it as pushing your body and feeling the pain and if you didnt' feel the pain, then you're not training right. training hard means exhaust the body and leave everything on the track. But if you are constantly doing that, you will not be able to stay relaxed as you sprint or even run. If you know my channel, I'm all for relaxation for sprinting. It's paramount for reaching your true potential. Training hard means you are constantly in a uncomfortable, stressed state. That might give you short term satisfaction but in the long term, it will limit the amount of training you can do, your potential and as you continue to batter your body, you raise the chances of injury.

As sprinters, we're often obsessed with getting fitter. We think it's the only way to succeed. Do more at a faster intensity or lift more to get better. In this video, I go over the reasons why this is a blinkered view of performance and why it's not only leading to overtraining but also ruining your career. Overtraining is rife in sport at the moment and especially athletics. But we don't realise it because we assume what we're doing is right. Because we dont stop to think about our sprint training (and Life), we hamper our speed, strength and flexibility without knowing we're doing it. We all have daily habits that are stopping from us achieving our full potential. These habits have a negative impact on your body which is explained in the video. It's our main job to identify them and stop doing them. What you eat and drink will rapidly hamper or enhance our fitness but so will what we think about. If you react badly to stressful situations, you'll make yourself physically weaker which will reduce fitness and increase chances of injury. Stress has been found to incrrease chances of injury. Mind and body works as a system. The fitness industry ignores this fact because it touches a nerve. We're often frightened of it because there are some parts of our mind that we do not want to explore. Unfortunately, this may mean a massive difference in your times. You must find what is stressing your body out because if you re stressed, you're not relaxed. Relaxation is power. It's the cornerstone of great sprinting.
Never mind about the amount of training you do and how hard you train, you will always be starting your sessions from a deficient state and as a result, will lead to injury if you do not look for what is hampering you as an athlete or sprinter.
Are you prepared to change these habits that are so ingrained in you? In what I do as a muscle activation practiitoner, I help you with this and interrupt those bad habits in your body and reset it to a better relaxed state.

We know pre-race routine is important. And this is not all about what you eat and the quality of your warm up although those things are important. It goes deeper than that. It's how you are and how you feel are crucial as well. And what you feel and think just BEFORE you sprint is as important to how you feel during sprinting. So setting the right foundation before your 100m,200m,400m or any race is crucial for your body to reward you with your fastest time. The problem is most sprinters do not set this foundation before a race which means they are hampered from running fast. They are too much in a heightened sympathetic state. So in this video, I talk about one simple question you should ask yourself before you start to sprint in any race or even in training. It sounds inconsequential and tenuous this question but it helps you tap into yuor potential and actually helps you to get into the flowThis question is powerful as it keeps your point of focus on what will harness strength, power and speed for you to run fast instead of negative aspects that will only make you weaker and slower and ultimately handicap your race.
This question is also a super easy way of bringing about relaxation which, as you will know from my previous videos, is crucial to sprinting.Any sport performance is not just about increasingg fitness and strength and flexibility but also about unearthing those things (that you are doing) that are holding you back.

Love some input from you #sprinters and 400m #athletes. How did it feel as you were running your fastest #100m 200m or 400m ? This open to distance runners as well
Its an important question because it relates to why you ran so fast in rhe first place. It addresses how you felt at your fastest. How you feel before and during these races is important. By starting a discussion about it and by answering that question, you start to learn more and you start to understand why you ran so fast. How you feel in the race will dictate how you run.
