Damascus or pattern layered steels are very often made from waste steels by many a hobbyist blacksmith. But how do you know what steels will give the best contrast if you do not know what steels you are working with. Nickel alloy when added to high carbon steels will not etch very well and thereby give a good contrast to high carbon steels that turn very dark. How does your mystery steel hold up to rust. These are questions we will answer in this video. The two experiments I carry out in the video gives excellent results and it really is a must if you do not want to waste days of forging and on top of that waste expensive fuels. #etching#Damascus#blacksmithing

So we kinda discovered a new way to do the tempering when we ran out of options for our machete. The handle with the see through copper pins turned out great and the forge in fire test we did showed of how good the hardening and tempering was done in the end. #workwithnature

We take a look at why soil erosion is the biggest threat to our arable lands. Why we need to develop a better understanding on keeping our soils healthy. Why Agrochemical Intensive Farming is causing quite a lot of damage to to our agricultural soils and why correct organic farming practices are the answer. We will also look at nitrogen fixing plants like azolla and I finally go around to doing an update on how it is doing.
