The Bitter Husband Problem | Ben Zornes (Exhortation)
The NT has a particular warning for husbands. That warning is expressed by Paul in Col. 3:19, when he admonishes, “Husbands, love your wives, & be not bitter against them.” Modern translations render this phrase as “do not be harsh with them,” which is true enough. But translating it that way changes our perception of where the sin lies. — Download the ChristKirk app: https://bit.ly/christkirkapp.
The point is that worship piles up. Worship grows in concentration of spiritual force. Blessings multiply like compound interest. Worship is our battering ram, and every Lord’s Day we take another swing at the gates of Hades. But every swing is actually heavier, every swing is pulled back a little further. This is because our worship includes the worship of all the saints. From the worship of Abel to Abraham to Israel at Jericho to David to Paul to Augustine to Calvin to Bunyan to Bonhoeffer to our own parents and grandparents, and all of it is offered up in the perfect sacrifice of Jesus.

"You have heard this many times—Christ is the Answer. Yes, Christ is the answer, and that is as true a statement as you will ever hear. But the problem is out in the streets, and so that is where the answer must be. The problem is in Congress and in the courts, and that is where the answer must be. The problem is in the media and in the entertainment complex, and that is where the answer must be. The problem is in our pulpits, and so that is where the answer must come.
The answer is not supposed to be in a locked vault down at the seminary. The answer is not to be entombed in the fat books of a smart theologian’s library, like he was simply drying flowers there.
Go out, in the shape of obedience. Go out, in the shape of Jesus Christ, clothed in Him, and acceptable because of Him. Realize that Christian are the hands and feet of Christ on earth today. But as you accept this role, with gratitude and thankfulness, remember also that His hands and feet are to be pierced.
A servant is not greater than his master." – Douglas Wilson

God sent His own Son into the world in the fullness of time, and that means the time was exactly right for the mission. Everything had been leading up to that moment, according to God’s perfect plan. Not one thing was out of place. Every blessing, every calamity, every gift, every heartbreak, every detail made that moment pregnant for God to redeem the world.
But that perfect timing was not a one-off event. We serve the God who rules every time and every season...

So if you put your faith on a slide for a microscope, and stare at it for hours, perhaps muttering exhortations to it, the one thing you can be sure of is that it will not grow. But if you learn to look away, if you learn to look to Christ, and if you turn to Scripture, you will find that your faith-precisely because you weren't paying attention to it—has been quietly growing.
