Goldfish (Pond Size)
Goldfish are a NORTHERN FRESH WATER FISH which can also survive in tropical areas just as well as it can extremely cold environments. The goldfish (Carassius auratus auratus) was one of the earliest fish to be domesticated, and is still one of the most commonly kept aquarium fish. A relatively small member of the carp family (which also includes the koi carp and the crucian carp), the goldfish is a domesticated version of a dark-gray/olive/brown carp native to east Asia (first domesticated in China) that was introduced to Europe in the late 17th century. The mutation that gave rise to the goldfish is also known from other cyprinid species, such as common carp and tench. Selective breeding over centuries has produced several color variations, some of them far removed from the "golden" color of the originally domesticated fish. There are also different body shapes, fin and eye configurations. Some extreme versions of the goldfish do need to be kept in an aquarium—they are much less hardy than varieties closer to the "wild" original. However, some variations are hardier, such as the Shubunkin. The main varieties are Common Goldfish, Black Moor, Bubble Eye, Celestial Eye Goldfish, Comet-Tailed Goldfish, Fantail, Lionhead, Oranda, Pearlscale, Pompoms, Ryukin, Shubunkins, Demekin, Ranchu, Panda Moor & Veiltail. Ours are somewhere between Common and Fantail -- with large "forked" tails, flowing fins and an array of various colors. Goldfish do a great job cleaning up a tank but they produce a high level of PH so you need either a really good filter and / or constant water changes -- especially if you're going to have these in a tank.

Red Tail Sharks (also called Rainbow Sharks)
Red Tail Sharks aka Rainbow Sharks, Epalzeorhynchos Frenatum, is a popular FRESH WATER TROPICAL FISH of the Cyprinidae family. It is also variously known as the ruby shark, red-fin shark, red-finned shark, rainbow sharkminnow, green fringelip labeo, whitefin shark and whitetail sharkminnow. Unlike true sharks, which belong to the Chondrichthyes ("cartilagenous fishes") lineage, the rainbow shark is an Actinopterygiian ("ray-finned fish"). Rainbow sharks have elongated, dark-black and greenish bodies. They also can be light orange body wise with dark red fins. The snout is pointed. The abdominal area is flat. The fins possess red to orange-red coloration. The linear area from the gill cover, the eye, and the mouth has a characteristic brief stripe. Compared to females, male rainbow sharks have thinner bodies with black lines along the tailfins. Males also have brighter coloration. Rainbow sharks are species native to the basins of Mekong, Chao Phraya, Xe Bangfai and Maeklong in Thailand in Southeast Asia. They are also found in Indonesia. They live in water with sandy bottoms. An adult rainbow shark thrives in a 55-gallon sized tank with water at the neutral pH range (6.5 to 7.0 pH), with temperature kept between 22 to 26 °C (72 to 79 °F), and water hardness maintained at 2 to 15 dH. A single rainbow shark is normally mixed with other community fish of similar size. Although known to be egg-layers, reproducing rainbow sharks are difficult in an aquarium setting. We are hoping that our pond will be suitable for them for this. Rainbow sharks are non-picky herbivorous and omnivorous eaters but are primarily consumers of algae in the form of tablets, wafers and flakes. They also eat livefood such as insect larvae, Tubifex worms, periphyton, crustaceans, phytoplankton, zooplankton and aquatic insects. Diet also include lettuce and spinach.
