Tivdio V-115 AM/FM/shortwave MP3 recording radio review & test
An inexpensive small AM/FM/shortwave radio with the attractive feature of being able to record to MP3 files on a Micro SD card... but is it any good? ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3u7kqJ3K2M
This little all-metal fan has been unused for years, but still works fine, albeit noisy. Its sheetmetal window frame was thrown out a long time ago. With only two small blades, it doesn't push much air; I tried to get it to blow a feather around, but the feather put up a good fight.

I found a rack for holding 100 audio cassette tapes, and put it to good use, with plans to get another one. In the process I give a look at my collection of pre-recorded cassettes (excluding cassingles) and play part of a cassette containing an FM Stereo radio broadcast recorded in 1974!

Playing a song downloaded from iTunes using the built-in digital audio capabilities of the Tandy 1000SL, an 8 MHz XT-class computer from 1988. I converted the iTunes M4A file into an 8-bit 22.05 kHz mono WAV file and applied a custom equalization curve to counteract the treble roll-off of the Tandy's anti-aliasing filter, then copied the WAV file onto the Tandy using PKZIP to split it up onto four 3½-inch 720KB floppy disks. The song is "The High Life" by RolyUngashaa.

The Video CD (VCD) was the predecessor to the DVD, but it never really caught on anywhere except Asia. A variant of this was an audio/video CD (AVCD), which also contains audio tracks which can be played in any standard CD player. However, the CD player will also attempt to play the video tracks, causing a loud blast of digital noise and hissing. The time indicated on its display matches the length of the video, but you only hear noise, not the audio track of the video.
I demonstrate this using a Westlife AVCD from Asia, and then put the same disc into my computer to prove that it actually does contain playable videos (in MPEG1 format).

Wal-Mart's Onn brand "rabbit ears" antenna and add-on antenna amplifier are a cheap but effective way to improve your FM radio reception. Similar brands should work fine as well -- just avoid those useless "mudflap" antennas. They barely work for TV and don't work at all for radio.

Sample video of "HD" recording on the Vivitar DVR 810HD camcorder, uploaded directly from the camera's flash memory drive. It encodes the video as 1280x720 "720P" MJPEG at 20 frames per second (yes, 20!) but a close-up look at the footage reveals obvious pixellation, so the actual resolution is not really "HD" at all. And as you can see, the slow 20 fps rate leads to smeary, blurry footage during any kind of fast motion. Its microphone did not pick up much of the outdoors ambience (birds chirping, etc.) but yet overmodulated my voice.
Overall, if you want *real* HD video at a budget price, get a Kodak Zi6 on sale for $99.99, or maybe even the Best Buy Insignia HD camcorder at that price. This camcorder is not truly "HD" -- not even close. Also see my main review video for a complete overview of the 810HD's features and samples of its lower-res VGA and QVGA recording.
