The Padilla Series 1968 Black Bear Torpedo smells a little green at the onset. After cutting the end, the cold draw flavors were those of very high-proof alcohol, so much so that I wonder if this cigar's tobacco was aged in a whiskey or bourbon barrel.

After torching the end, I was blasted with solid Nicaraguan flavors and shoe leather.

NOTE: In the "wrapper" section above, I have TBD as the state. Some sources say the wrapper is a Broadleaf from Pennsylvania, others say it's from Connecticut.

In the middle of the cigar, the cigar tasted good, but not as smooth or as complex as a more premium, aged cigar. The flavors were spicy, I could taste cedar, and, occasionally, I could smell (but not taste) a little bit of vanilla.

Final Thoughts:

In the final third, the flavors of the Padilla Series 1968 Black Bear became a little bit harsh as the cigar heated up. However, even though the cigar didn't remain as good in the end as it started, the flavors were still pretty good.

Because of the Padilla Black Bear's price, I think this cigar is worth taking a chance on. For the most part, the construction of the cigar was great. The draw was perfect and I never struggled to get enough smoke.  For these reasons, the Padilla Series 1968 Black Bear Torpedo earns a CigarScore 3.

However, learning about new cigars and brands is one of the reasons I started CigarScore TV. Today I'm smoking the beautifully marbled Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro Gran Toro. When I first light the cigar, the flavors are quite delicious, but the unacceptably tight draw is making them hard to enjoy. Brand: Drew Estate Line: Undercrown Maduro Size: 6 x 52 Cut: Double Punch Light: Torch Price: $9 Buy This Cigar - https://famous-smoke.7eer.net/nekLX Final Thoughts: The burn on the Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro Gran Toro was almost perfect throughout the entire smoke. And, the flavors were pretty good. However, that's where the positive things end and the horror story begins. The absolutely terrible draw killed this cigar. In general, when the draw of a cigar is bad, everything else struggles. And this Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro struggled. Hard. Sindicato Cigars isn't a brand with which we're all too familiar with here at CigarScore HQ. It's got a pigtail tip, a foot that's almost closed, and the faint smell of beef jerky. But, upon closer examination, this Sindicato looks like a pretty good cigar, so let's dive in. After cutting the end with my guillotine cutter, the draw was nearly perfect. However, the cold draw flavors were much lighter than the dark and marbled wrapper would suggest. Once the cigar was lit, the flavors were spicy but good. Over the first few minutes, the draw was wonderful, the flavors were bold and spicy, and things got off to a delicious start. The Sindicato's draw remained perfect, but I didn't love the progression of the flavors. Final Thoughts The Sindicato Maduro Toro is just okay. Honestly, the cigar is good, but it's just not that memorable, and that's not really a good thing. However, the construction of this cigar was really good. The draw was perfect and the burn was mostly even. The only negative in the area of the construction was a tiny stem in the smoking end that bugged me. If you can get his cigar for around $9, you might enjoy it. If you have to pay more than $10, you might want to explore these cigars instead. Sometimes we smoke cigars that taste like they've just come off an assembly line. Other times, like today, we review a cigar that has a wrapper that's old enough to vote and pose in an adult magazine. Sporting an 18-year-old “undisclosed” wrapper, the 1502 XO Churchill Limited Edition is today's cigar for review. Visually, the 1502 XO Churchill Limited Edition looked premium. It had a great label that gave the cigar a very limited edition or private label feel. The wrapper leaf looked like a wrinkly elbow, but that's not something to worry about. Rounding out the visuals, the 1502 XO had a semi-closed foot. Regarding the cigar's aroma, it smelled really good. The first sign of trouble came when I went to cut the cigar with my guillotine. The end was difficult to cut, perhaps due to a stem at the smoking end. Afterward, the cap seemed to unravel before my eyes. Not a great start, but I kept going. On the cold draw, the flavors were predominantly of wood, specifically cedar. For a $24 cigar, this Churchill should not only smoke for longer, but it should taste better as well. There was some harshness in the middle, and that harshness came back in the final third. At the end of the day, the flavors were just okay. The quality of the burn was just okay. And the smoke time was just okay. If this cigar was $13 or $14 the story would be different. They're little works of art, hand-rolled by experts who've spent years learning their craft. When compared to cigarettes, a cigar is like a dry-aged filet mignon, and a cigarette is like cheap bologna that's been dropped on the floor, picked up, rolled up, and stuffed in a cardboard box. Cigars are organic. No chemicals ever touch the tobacco leaves. No insecticides, pesticides or anything else will be found on these leaves. Additionally, no chemicals are ever added to the leaves as they're being rolled into a cigar. Cigars will go out if they're not puffed on; no chemicals have been added to keep them lit. PLANTED Cigars are made completely by hand. An expert plants seeds directly into the soil that has been cared for. The ground has been treated and tilled to have the right amounts of vitamins and minerals crucial to the success of a healthy plant. PICKED After the tobacco plant has soaked up plenty of natural sunlight and grown to several feet tall, someone cuts off each leaf to let it dry, age, and ferment.
