The search for planets around other stars is heating up. So far, there are over 4,000 confirmed exoplanets. What would the Earth look like in one of these searches?

Did you know there is an effort underway to actually see the event horizon of a black hole? Right now, astronomers around the world are processing data taken earlier of the center of our galaxy in attempt to see the boundary between normal space and that of Sag A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.
The results are due out soon and this hangout is your chance to learn about one of the most amazing astronomy endeavours ever attempted from Geoff Bower, Chief Scientist for Hawaii Operations for the Event Horizon Telescope.

It may have taken a global pandemic for many people to understand exponential growth, but Peter Diamandis has used it for years to explain technological advancement. Understanding Diamandis’ 6 D’s - digitization, deception, disruption, demonetization, dematerialization, and democratization - can help entrepreneurs make an impact.

The STEREO team released the first image ever taken of the complete globe of the sun. Not the disk, the ENTIRE sphere. Really cool.
I also respond to a request about concerns of the upcoming solar max and the predictions that it will be stronger than usual.

NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden has often observed that humans are closer to their first mission to Mars than ever before in history. In the first in a series of Hangout discussions, we will hear from scientific and technical experts who have been developing priority capabilities, innovative scenarios, and the objectives for human exploration of Mars within about two decades.
Join Tony Darnell, Harley Thronson and Alberto Conti as they discuss with Hoppy Price (JPL) and Joseph Cassady (Aerojet Rocketdyne) current architectures for initial human missions to Mars that are both affordable and sustainable.

Getting started in amateur astronomy can be a bewildering experience. Following experienced amateurs who've been there before can save a lot of time, money and frustration. In this highlight from Space Junk Podcast, Dustin and Tony discuss some kits available from OPT throughout the Christmas holiday that can augment your gear or become a gift for those who you know that are already involved in amateur astronomy.

Welcome to our inaugural Telescope Talk - Professsional Version Hangout! Today we learn about the Square Kilometer array being built in South Africa and Western Australia
The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project is an international effort to build the world’s largest radio telescope, with eventually over a square kilometre (one million square metres) of collecting area. The scale of the SKA represents a huge leap forward in both engineering and research & development towards building and delivering a unique instrument, with the detailed design and preparation now well under way. As one of the largest scientific endeavours in history, the SKA will bring together a wealth of the world’s finest scientists, engineers and policy makers to bring the project to fruition.
Please join Tony Darnell and Christian Ready as they discuss this exciting ground-based professional observatory with Dr. Jeff Wagg and Daniel Hayden, both members of the SKA Consortium.
