Rhubarb is a vigorous vegetable native to central Asia and it thrives here in our climate in Ireland. It literally requires no maintenance. We like to plant it as a ground cover especially along borders and under fruit trees as does well in semi shade and suppresses weeds. Some years it sends up a flower stalk attracting pollinators and other beneficial insects. Rhubarb can be grown from seed and by splitting or transplanting the crown (root). Only one variety doesn't become poisonous after mid summer and it can be harvested right up the very end of the growing season. More detail in the video.

Yacon is a tuberous winter vegetable from the Andes with a crisp texture and a mild sweetness best eaten raw like an apple. It grows similar in structure to a Dahlia, but taller and with yellow daisy like flowers. Yacon is closly related to Jerusalem artichokes and the sunflower. It can easily be grown outdoors, however it isn't frost hardy so plant it out after the chance of a late frost.
Yacon growing tips / starts will be available at the beginning of March. Take a look at our online shop (link below) and get onto the Yacon list to be notified.

We participated in a apple tree grafting workshop hosted by the Roscommon Produce Network. We learned how to graft any variety of apple onto a rootstock of your choice. Making your own apple and other fruit trees saves you money and most importantly it enables you to propagate and preserve old and rare varieties of fruit. We're glad we made a quick video at the workshop and we'll be glad to bring you along. Grow your own fruit, you can't beat the flavour!

The Mallow flowers come in many forms and many colours. Great plant to have in any garden, attracts beneficial insects and it's a good food source for pollinating insects. Flowers in white, pink, purple and even black... The Marshmallow is medicinal, the leaves contain mucilage which is great to sooth a dry throat and the root used to be made into marsh mallows, hence the name of the sweet. The wood mallow has the best edible salad leaves and all of the mallows require next to zero maintenance. Easily grown from seed or cuttings. Latin name: Malva Sylvestris

In this video we're showing you 8 different berries we've been growing in our gardens. These are all easy to grow, almost zero maintenance and very rewarding as you harvest your own fresh berries year after year from early Summer to mid Autumn. Berries are considered a medicinal food as they contain tons of vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants and if harvested fresh enzymes as well.
Some are common but often underrated such as Currants (red, white & black), Raspberries, Strawberries and even the less commonly sold but delicious Gooseberry. Other berries are more rare but can be grown with a high level of productivity depending on the variety chosen. These include Gojiberries, Jostaberries, Tayberries and the historic Salmonberry. There are others not included in this video such as Grapes, hardy Kiwis (as small as a berry), thornless Blackberries, Seaberries, Elderberries and so on. We will do a follow up video on these.
