After you defeat Matt, you’ll take on the team’s leader, Archie. Archie is using a machine with the Meteorite fitted in so the volcano’s activity can deactivate and become a place where Water type Pokémon can live. Battle Archie and defeat him so that Team Aqua will retreat. You can take the Meteorite out of the machine after the battle and give it to Professor Cozmo at Fallarbor Town later.

After getting the Soul Badge, you have the option to go to Route 10 and Surf south where you’ll find the Power Plant. The Power Plant is home to many Electric type Pokémon and it contains items on the ground, which can fake you into encountering Voltorb or Electrode. After navigating the maze, you’ll encounter the legendary bird Pokémon, Zapdos. Save your game before you interact with it. Zapdos is on Level 50. Since it knows Drill Peck, try using a Pokémon that has a dual Rock/Ground type, like Golem or Rhydon for example. Use Ultra Balls and sleeping status moves.

At the Abundant Shrine, go by a Youngster and turn right to find a Hidden Grotto. Enter this Hidden Grotto and you’ll sometimes encounter a special Amoonguss. It ranges between Levels 35-40. It also has the hidden ability, Regenerator. Regenerator restores the user’s HP by a third of its maximum when switching out. Amoonguss can also be encountered on Routes 22 and 23 as items can be mistaken for this Pokémon.

The level is the same design as World 2-4, but this time, a longer fire bar with lurking fireballs is at the start. The rest of the blanks have been filled with fire bars. When you see fire incoming, a fire bar spins fast by 6 coins. Once you reach the drawbridge, you’ll battle Bowser again. Touch the axe to finish and a stranger will tell you to go away as the lady is not around at the moment.

Lance is the Dragon type Pokémon master. His entire team of 5 know a move called Hyper Beam. Hyper Beam causes massive damage but it forces the user to recharge the next turn. Gyarados knows Hydro Pump, said to be the strongest of all Water type moves. Aerodactyl will combo by confusing targets with Supersonic then using Bite to make the targets flinch. Dragonite knows Barrier, which it and its pre-evolutions can’t normally learn in the Generation I series but it can learn it via breeding in Generation II. Gyarados can easily be taken down by Thunderbolt and all others by Ice Beam.

Striaton City’s gym has panels on the floor that you must press that is super effective against the drawing on the curtains to open them. After beating the trainers and opening the curtains, you’ll take on one of the 3 Waiter Brothers. Depending on your starter, you’ll face just one of them. If you start with Snivy, you’ll face off against Chili with a Pansear. If you start with Tepig, you’ll take on Cress equipped with a Panpour. If you start with Oshawott, you’ll battle Cilan who has a Pansage. After winning, you’ll receive the Trio Badge along with a TM83 (Work Up). Work Up raises the user’s Attack and Special Attack stats. Unlike the previous generations, TMs can now be used more than once and will never dispose when you teach your Pokémon moves.
