Hitler and the Nazis were tyrants, but they were not the only tyrants who ever existed. History shows a long parade of tyrants fomenting their tyranny through various forms of government, including representative government. It is important to understand that higher magistrates tend to respond negatively when their orders, laws, or policies are defied. They don't take kindly to disobedience. A short perusal of history makes that fact glaringly clear. When Moses told Pharaoh to "let My people go," Pharaoh did not respond by saying "Oh, sure." Rather, he ordered the Israelites to make bricks without straw. The tyrant, Emperor Caligula did not respond appreciatively to Governor Petronius when he defied Caligula's immoral law about the statue. Caligula told Petronius, "I will make you an example to the present and to all future ages that they may not dare to contradict the commands of their emperor." King Charles I of England didn't go quietly into the night just because Parliament challenged his belief in the divine right of kings. King George didn't change his mind, bring his troops home, and get with the program just because the American colonists issued a Declaration of Independence. Higher magistrates committed to unjust or immoral law will always demonize, marginalize, undermine, and criminalize any lesser magistrate who takes a stand to oppose their unjust/immoral laws or policies. You have to understand, there will be a conflict.Tyrants will stop at nothing to impose their tyranny. Most lesser magistrates will always just go along with the tyrant higher authority. This is how Hitler was able to commit his holocaust against the Jews. It is critical that when those rare lesser magistrates take a stand that we rally behind them. A crowd of about 200 gathered to hear this election sermon. There were about 40 state legislators present along with other government officials. This sermon took the hearers by storm - rousing their hearts. Election sermons were common in early America. In the past - during the first 100 years of our nation - many pastors preached every year what became known as “election” and “artillery” sermons. Clergymen understood and taught their congregations that God’s Word addressed all matters of life, including the matters of civil government. The church pulpits were the historical means whereby the people were instructed - from a theological foundation - in the purpose, functions, and limitations of the State. When a citizenry’s view of the State is theologically-driven, the State can no longer get away with doing whatever just tickles its fancy.
