Dr. Pravetoni PhD is part of the faculty at the University of Washington's School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He recently became director of the school's new Center for Medication Development for Substance Use Disorders. The center aims to develop innovative strategies for the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders, with a focus on opioids. While the opioid epidemic is ongoing, overdose deaths due to opioids, particularly from fentanyl-laced drugs and synthetic opioids, have significantly increased during the pandemic.
Dr. Pravetoni developed an experimental vaccine for opioid use disorder which is currently being tested in Phase 1 clinical trials.

While some biotech and pharma companies were “winners,” most have missed out on the opportunity to monetize the pandemic. Looming questions and issues mount—spooking potential investors—which, of course, can adversely impact share prices. Do some noticeable losses in hedge funds introduce more risk or opportunity?
