In this video I first carry out a preparation of amorphous cadmium metal from cadmium sulfate using a magnesium rod. The amorphous cadmium is taken and refluxed with iodine in water until all of the cadmium dissolves. The solution is then evaporated down over boiling water to both expel excess I2 and to crystallize the product.
