Gary Floyd celebrated the 21st Anniversary of the Dicks 1st gig at Armadillo World Headquarters with this appearance at the late great Paradise Lounge in San Francisco with mid 1980's Dicks drummer Lynn Perko, plus bassist Ed Cagnacci and Black Kali Ma / Smokin' Rhythm Prawns guitarist Matt Margolin (RIP).
It was loud and sweaty in the club that night as the band played a blisteringly short but sweet set , following Gary's then current band Black Kali Ma to the stage. In this video X-Tal vocalist J Neo and SF scenester Mohawk Susan Hadley recount a memorable New Year's Eve show by The Dicks to ring in 1985. The video ends with a plug by me for Gary's self published autobiography "Please Bee Nice. My Life Up 'Til Now: A Gary Floyd Memoir" http://evnt.bz/BeeNice ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxP2ozqtXSM
Historic look at the early days of film that begins with scenes from the Edison Picture "The Great Train Robbery" and then moves on to peep show kinetoscope reels and tells the story of a vaudeville bit player who rose to acclaim and became one of America's first movie stars. This 1964 KPIX TV documentary film explores the early film career of Bronco Billy Anderson ( originally vaudeville actor Gilbert Max Aronson 1880-1971) and his role at the Essanay Film Company in Niles California. See footage of the small Bay Area town near Fremont, that prior to the emergence of Hollywood, was a leading location for westerns, comedies and other film feature productions between 1912-1916. Documentary includes extensive scenes of silent films produced at the studio (including early Charlie Chaplin features), recollections of the hard drinking casts & crews on the studio lot in Niles, and reflections on Anderson's contribution to the western movie genre. It ends with a view of him at the Shrine Auditorium, accepting an honorary Oscar for his pioneering film work in 1958. This film includes interviews with Bronco Billy and was narrated by Don Brice, Gilbert M. The A & B side of Flipper's classic 1980 indie rock 7" single debut released by Steve Tupper on Subterranean/Thermidor Records as performed live 10/10/2015 at The Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco.
Both songs are masterfully jaded methed up narcoleptic noise rock takes on the American Dream gone awry, setting the tone for the emerging ennui amidst a painful wasteland of suburban consumer conformity and corporate malfeasance that would be known as the 1980's.
Flipper 2015 features:
Bruno DeSmartass on bass
Steve dePace on drums
Ted Falconi on guitar
David Yow on vox

original lyrics by Bruce Lose Caldwell & Will Shatter
Isn´t life a blast
It´s just like living in the past
We go downtown to do our shopping
And we live in suburbia
And I say
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho
He he he he he he he he
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
What is there to do she said
He said come on baby
And i´ll show you a good time
So they went on down
To one of those cheap motels
And they got all gushy and wet
And I say
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
We set sailing
Floating down the love canal
We set sailing
Drifting down the love canal
We seem strange
Our bodies are breaking down
We are breeding
Our children look like monsters
We are breeding
Not to children but to monsters
We feel pain
Poison is killing our every cells
We are bitter
Poison is killing our very cells
We are dying
Our common grave is the love canal
We are dying
