Free Running. Making a tune from scratch in Logic Pro X (Part 5)
Onto day 2 and we start Part 5 by looking at some freeware plugins. I talk briefly about the LePou Amp Sims and Impulse Response Loader which can be found here:
In the second half of the video I talk about how to use sends and buses to create dedicated FX on auxiliary channels and how to make use of the Pre-Fader option.
There is not much music creation in this part, but there is hopefully some useful information for those who are new to using sends and bus channels in Logic Pro X.
As always, I genuinely hope you enjoy these videos and find them informative at least. Please click on Part 6 at the link below if you wish to continue this journey with me into music production:

Hi guys, thought I'd share with you this useful technique that allows you to capture changes to plugins, synths, volume, panning etc., but without using automation.
Instead I show you how to print the changes to audio. This can be a great way to Post-Process bass sounds, as I am doing in this video, but it can be useful in many other situations as well. Bouncing all your processing to audio has some advantages too - keeping your arrangements neat and tidy and helping to save some precious cpu!
I also demonstrate a free delay plugin - the ++pitchdelay by Soundhack. If you're interested in trying this out for yourself just follow the link below:

Also, my puppies decided to get in on the act and make their YouTube debut!
So there we go, as always thank you for the the support. Please subscribe if you haven't done so already and I'll see you next time around!!!!!
xxxxx Peace xxxxx

This is my latest track - Lockdown.
It began life as a drum loop I was processing for a sample pack I'm currently working on and quickly evolved into this piece of music. A disjointed track with two distinct parts, it begins with a brooding, ominous soundscape that seems to echo the fear and uncertainty of our current, collective reality - or at least the reality most mainstream media outlets would have us believe.
The video mimics the music with chaotic imagery and flickering visuals - a pandemic of matrix-glitching paranoia, in a cognitively dissonant mind, building into an inevitably horrific conclusion...
... but, all is not as it seems! Fear and paranoia soon dissipates into a serene and peaceful world. The music and aesthetics shift, delicately caressing the tangible and tactile world we experience, tinged with ripples of sadness and loss. But shining through it all comes the exquisite beauty of indomitable nature, that graces us each day anew.
Fear not, for fear is the weapon of those that wish to control and, when unjustified, the maker of myopic and bad decisions. Be mindful and question your reality, stay safe, stay strong, love and look out for one another. Do not give in to those that wish to keep you in lockdown, yourself included. We are all in this together - and knowing this, gives me great comfort.
Consciousness can change, can transmute, can evolve, but can never die.
Peace and love, as always, my brothers and sisters.

In part 2 - using a multi-output instance of Ultrabeat - I demonstrate how to send your drum sounds to separate outputs. Then I begin to process these sounds (kicks, snares etc.) individually with EQ, compression and distortion before using the parallel processing channels to enhance the drums further.
Next I demonstrate how to use your kick as a trigger for adding sidechain compression to your track. And I write a pretty lousy bassline to demonstrate the process! What's not to love?
Hope you enjoy part 2. Please join us again on the next installment.

Here is the first part of a series of videos giving an inside look from a producers POV. I am using Logic Pro X to make a tune from scratch and working with only the stock plugins, or easily available freeware plugins.
If you're looking for a slick 10min tutorial video on music production, then I suggest that you look elsewhere. This is definitely not that - more like a warts 'n' all look into the mind-workings of a befuddled music producer!!!!
There's a lot of rambling and me going off on various tangents, but there should also be some useful information for anyone learning to make beats, record audio, or produce music using Logic Pro.
In this part I start by building a beat using the ESX24 sampler and recording in some sounds of my own, using random objects.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy and if you like this part, why not watch part 2 and please remember to subscribe and like!

In Part 2 we take a look at how to use a noise gate to create ducking effects to create a pumping bassline. Similar to sidechain compression, this technique will help to create space for your kicks and give your tracks more clarity and punch.
This technique can also be used for stylistic purposes and is relatively easy to set-up and use.

Turning junk into funk and trash into cash - maybe! I thought I'd have a listen back to some of my old projects to see if I could find a nugget to reinvent. Enjoy!

Just a collection of ramblings and mutterances by a bumbling fool, trying to offer general advice to the rookie music producer! Perhaps these musings will resonate with the more experienced among you, as well. But, as always, it is up to you to decide!
Even if you are not a producer, but like Kung Fu movies, public service announcements from the 40's and 50's, dogs running around and can put up with staring at my fugly mug for a while, there should be something in this video for you too.
Also, bit of a Garth Marenghi's Darkplace vibe to this one, with overtones of Jam (Chris Morris). So fans of British comedy should get a kick outta it too.
Peace man, like, roll a fat one... yeah!

Felt like making some ambient music today. I pre-recorded a couple of synth loops, one onto tape, the other straight into the DAW. These were then played back (the tape at half-speed, obviously!), while recording more synth parts live. All the instrumentation is coming from a free App (Synth One) on the iPad, which is being routed through the mixer, back out of the aux send, through some pedals and then fed back through the mixer.
Not an ideal set-up, but with some additional effects in post, think it came out sounding rather haunting - hence the name!
