The 41 year-old from Croeserw, Neath, South Wales will be spending at least the next four years in Prison as he was sentenced on Friday 8th April for causing the deaths of four year old Gracie-Ann Lucas and her younger brother Jayden-Lee Lucas from Tredegar in Gwent, after the car they were travelling in had pulled over onto the Hard Shoulder between Junctions 28 and 29A of the M4 Westbound as Gracie needed the toilet after complaining of a bad stomach. The Lucas family were returning home to Tredegar from a birthday party at the Techniquest Science Centre in Cardiff and at the same time they were stopped on the Hard Shoulder, 41 year-old Newman driving on three hours sleep as well as being more than twice over the drink drive limit and the influence of cocaine ploughed into the stationary car wiping out Gracie-Ann and Jayden-Lee and leaving their Mother, Rhiannon Lucas, with serious injuries. With Newman pleading guilty to what he did, adding that he had done some 'f***ing s**t' in his life but nothing anywhere as serious as this, he was sentenced to nine years and four months imprisonment of which half will be spent in Prison and half on Licence. Even the sentencing Judge admitted the sentence was not enough, but being bound by sentencing guidelines had no other choice than to bestow the sentence upon Newman.
