## Easy Anti Cheat
So, if you're a gamer, you know that Linux gaming has come a long way, but that it's still hamstrung for a lot of online games by the lack of support for certain anti-cheat systems. While a lot of them actually offer a Linux version of their tools, like Easy Anti Cheat, or EAC, or even BattleEye, these only work if the game itself has been built for Linux.
This means that ultra popular games, like Fortnite or Apex legends just couldn't work under Linux, even though Wine and Proton have been able to run them for a while.
This has been a thorn in the side of plenty of Linux gamers, as a lot of online multiplayer games tend to use EAC.
## Valve to the rescue
Now, fortunately, we have a strong ally in the form of Valve. While they're responsible for bringing us Proton, and integrating it really well inside of Steam, they've also been working with Epic Games and other anti-cheat system providers to bring this stuff to Linux.
It's been an uphill battle, as Proton has been available since August 2018, more than 3 years ago, and we had NOT been able to make anti cheat systems work since then.

It's no secret that GNOME has been working hard on improving its look and feel, with an Adwaita redesign in the works. Here is a first peak at what might be coming !

Colors
First things first, the colors. GNOME traditionnaly uses a muted color palette, that makes icons and items a bit dull, in my opinion. This will definitely change with the new color palette, which boasts much more vibrant colors that can be used in icons, and custom application styling. These changes to the palette should make GNOME apps stand out a bit more.
Headerbars and Buttons
Widgets used in the headerbar also have been tuned up. They sport a lighter design, with more rounded corners on buttons, and a flatter, more modern style. THe solid borders which defined each button are now replaced with more subtle shadows. I find them as legible, but much nicer to the eye, making tabs and buttons a lot more pleasing.
The headerbar, which hosts most of these buttons, also has been tuned, with a darker background to make buttons stand out more, as well as more contrast between a focused and unfocused window.
Switches have not been put aside, with the disappearance of the "On/Off" labels. The justification behind this is that these controls are now ubiquitous on phones and desktop environments alike, and that mostly everyone know that the "On" position is on the right.
The GNOME team stresses out that these changes should not break compatibility with other applications based on Adwaita, but developers should still check their apps against the latest version of the theme, just in case !
Those changes might seem small at a glance, but while using GNOME with the default theme, they do make a difference. It looks cleaner, less heavy, and a bit more modern. In conjunction with the new icons being worked on, GNOME should sport a nicer coat of paint.
The new theme should be made default for GTK 3.24.4.
While I still find Adwaita a bit boring and dull, even with these changes, I think it will be a good improvement for users of the default theme. If you didn't like Adwaita before, chances are the new theme won't change your mind, and you'll stick to your theme of choice.
Icons
A big part of the look and feel of a desktop is also defined by its icons. On the department, work is still underway, and is intended to ship with GNOME 3.32. All system and default app icons are being redesigned to be less tri-dimensional, flatter, and more colorful as well.

But what's a platform, exactly? Basically, I'm talking about an application platform.
The best example that most people will be familiar with, will be in the smartphone world, with the iOS platform and the Android platform.
Problem is, there is NO Linux platform, and there has never been one.
That's simply because there is no "one Linux operating system". You have what we call Linux distributions, which can be very different from each other, not including the same systems, desktop environments, packages or libraries.
So application developers can't really develop an app for the Linux platform. They can develop an application that runs on Linux based operating systems, and makes use of some Linux features and libraries, but they have to make A LOT OF choices along the way.
Do they want to have a dependency on systemD, do they want to use GTK or Qt, or something else as the toolkit? Do they want to follow human interface guidelines for a desktop that uses this library?

As a way to compensate for the lack of customization and options, the GNOME developers have added an extension framework, to let users and other devs integrate some features that they didn't want to add to the default GNOEM version. These extensions are available from extensions.gnome.org, and can be accessed through GNOME-Tweaks.
Installing extensions
The easiest way is to install them through the browser: you can install a browser add-on that will let you enable extensions right from extensions.gnome.org. To do so, visit the add-ons page of your browser (or works with Firefox or CHrome), and install the GNOME Shell integration add-on. I'll put the links in the description below.

You'll also need to add the host connector package to your system, which is named chrome-gnome-shell, whether you are using Firefox or CHrome. Install that from your system's repositories, and you should be good to go.
User themes
This one is a must have if you want to change the GNOME Shell look and feel. Install it, and you'll enable theming for GNOME shell elements, such as the top panel, the activites overview, the dock, the application menus or the system indicators. To change the theme once you installed this extension, open GNOME Tweaks, and select the theme you have installed. Installing themes can be done by unzipping them to the ".themes" folder of your /home directory.

Dash to dock:
Do you like the favorites dock in the "Activites" overview ? Well if you wish it was there all the time and not just when you open the activities, this extension will do just that. It will make your favorites dock present at all times on the left of the screen. If you want to change its position, you can open GNOME Tweaks, and go to the "extensions" tab.

This one is geard towards people who would rather have an all-in one panel at the bottom,like Windows or KDE do, for ,example. THis extension will remove the top panel, and integrate it with the dock and the application launcher in one single panel.
You also get the same options as dash to dock, to only show running apps, or favorite apps, the ability to show a desktop button on the right of the panel, just like on windows, or the APpMEnu.

Let's begin with the hardware itself. The tablet itself is really high quality. It's glass on both sides, with aluminium all around. It has an 11 inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, that I definitely like better than widescreen 16:9 for a tablet.
It's a really thin device, at 6.7mm, and weighs just under 500g.
In terms of specs, the JingPad A1 uses a UNISOC Tiger T7510. it's an 8 core system on a chip, with 4 cortex A75 performance cores at 2Ghz, and 4 Cortex A55 efficiency cores at 1.8Ghz for less power intensive tasks.
On top of that chip, you get 8Gb of RAM, 256Gb of storage, as well as dual band wifi, and bluetooth 5.
Now, let's talk about the most important part of a tablet: the display. It's amazing. Like, really, really good. It's an AMOLED panel, with a 2368x1728 resolution, which puts it at 266 pixels per inch.
You also get 2 cameras: a front facing one, at 8MP, and a back camera, at 16Mp.
The speakers are decent, firing from both sides of the tablet.
Ok, let's move on to the software. There's no 2 ways about it, it's not finished.

In this part, I'll walk you through some methods to install new themes and icon packs on your system, to change its look and feel to your liking.
WARNING: Not all themes are complete, and some of them might result in broken or missing UI elements.
We'll see how to install themes and icons manually from downloaded archive files, as well as installing them from deb packages directly. We won't cover the installation of PPA's, since I've already touched on this topic on other parts of the guide.
We'll take some themes as examples, such as Numix, or OSe-X. Changing themes and icons require you to install elementary tweaks on your system, so check out part 8 of our guide to know more about that, if you haven't done it already !
