Lots of questions were asked, so I thought I'd answer them while attempting the landing with Ferram Aerospace installed.
Apparently the story about the stage spinup and baffles was untrue, I don't remember where I heard it, but it's all wrong, it was simple fuel starvation. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcjqTdMUO-k
GW190521 was the name given to a gravitational wave event observed by LIGO and VIRGO in May 2019, and after a year of analysis and modelling it's now clear that not only was this the largest gravitational wave event ever recorded, but, it required progenitor black holes which were more massive than can be created by a supernova.

Finally, after months of waiting I got in line at a Lego Store yesterday morning and came away with the newly released Saturn V set. For $120 you get a set with 1969 pieces standing 1 meter tall (to scale with 'trophy' models). It took me about 6 hours, on and off to build, interrupted by putting kids to bed and clearing up kitty barf, but in the end the set is amazing. The designers came up with a bunch of build tricks I'd never seen before in Lego and there aren't any custom molded parts, just a few painted pieces.
Right now the model is back ordered and resellers are charging a huge markup, but if you wait a few weeks there'll be new stock.
I livestreamed the build on twitch.tv - if you want to watch the full thing I've put it here:

So, back when 0.16 was released people did all sorts of crazy missions with tiny rockets before it was realised that a bug in the fuel consumption allowed huge savings in fuel needs. Now that there's a mod to fix this I wanted to see how far this 3 part rocket would go.
Kerbal Space Program is and Indie game developed by Squad. Download it from http://www.kerbalspaceprogram.com - thanks to the devs for encouraging these videos.

The recent Electron rocket launch included a couple of previously undisclosed payloads - a satellite called "The Humanity Star" which is like a space disco ball designed to be easy to see from the ground. The second payload is an upper stage using a 'green' rocket fuel which extends the capabilities of the launch vehicle.
So let's talk about the technology behind green rocket fuel research.

It's almost 50 years since Apollo 13 lifted off onto what would become the definition of the 'successful failure', a mission where lives were very much at stake and the teams at mission control had to solve problems they'd not expected to bring the crew home safely.
I wanted to re-create the 'adapter' that the crew had to make which would allow the Lithium Hydroxide canisters from the command module to work with the Lunar module's environmental control system. Using only the things they had on hand the crew had to 'fit a square peg in a round hole' so that they atmosphere would have remained breathable for the return
Some good references for this procedure are on NASA's history site.

I 3D printed my canister prop using a design from Havazik, he was able to put this together in a couple of hours, I'd have taken days.

The 3D printer I use is a Prusa MK3 and it was a gift from Prusa Research, It was able to handle the filament running out and resumed after a power cut during the main print.

With our kerbals on the way to Duna they have also become the first kerbals to enter interplanetary space and as such we are rewarded with science! Just enough science to unlock the new RAPIER engine and attempt to design a spaceplane capable to taking a small payload into orbit and returning to base.

While on vacation in Hawaii I did get to visit a lot of cool places, obviously I really wanted to see telescopes on the top of the mountain, and we will get to that, however a lot of the telescopes are operated from the much more hospitable environment near sea level.
Gemini Observatory is a pair of 8 Meter telescopes, in different hemispheres, able to cover the whole sky between them. I dropped by for a chat with the staff.

Introducing Ubio Welding Ltd's part welding plugin, letting you build composite structural parts to put on space stations and other spacecraft. Obviously this is a bit contrived, but I wanted to demonstrate the difference in frame rate so I kept building bigger and bigger stations before the whole thing was 'acceptably slow'.

Continuing the playthrough on Playstation 4 I spent an afternoon on the sofa working with the limitations of my KSC buildings and the inherent limitations of the PS4 version. Because I didn't want to spend money on the tracking station I don't have maneuver nodes or intercept estimates which makes it a bit more 'fun'.
