A 250 Year Tradition Has Been Broken: Japanese Invasion of Taiwan.
Howdy folks. I do hope that y'all enjoy this slight change in style and of course the topic. The 1874 invasion of Taiwan is by far the lesser known event of the grouping that will be covered, but it plays a vital role in the re-telling of history.
The 1st Minnesota Division holds the title for the largest loss of life for a surviving division. This, is there story.

In this episode of Civil War Generals 2: Oh man.. This battle is going to be a bit of a tricky one, especially with that stupid fort artillery. Why must these forts have so much range and attack power. They can hit me from the other end of the map?? Fuck this! I'm gonna go home, only issue is that I can't actually move back.. Oh.. Well, fuck, Guess I do need to fight.. kidtrjkpdtkptgftgf9349054890

The Battle of Raymond was fought on May 12, 1863 between elements of the Union Army of the Tennessee under the over-all command Maj Gen Ulysses S.Grant, with local command under Maj Gen James.B McPherson. And elements of the Confederate army of the Mississippi under the over-all command of Lt. Gen John C Pemberton with local command under Brigadier-General John Gregg.
Pemberton's planned to hold Grants army along a broad line stretching along Fourteen Mill Creek, to do this, it required him to consolidate all the men he could from the departments under his command into one force. A force that would be able to hold Grants army until additional men could be brought up. Unknown to anyone in the Confederate army, was that the XVII corps, which encompassed McPherson's two divisions, were already within ten miles of the main Confederate body at Raymond. Upon hearing of the arrival of Confederate forces into the town, McPherson was ordered to use his force to drive the Confederates out and capture the town. For this, the 20th Ohio was deployed into a skirmish line with one of it's brigades making its way towards a bridge on the creek.
John Gregg, upon hearing of this force , marched to meet what he assumed was merely a raiding party. He concealed his men on a hill overlooking the creek, with the hopes of luring them

The French had used Algeria has a large importer during the French Revolution, primarily of food and bought on credit. Following the end of the Revolution and the Bourbon Restoration, trade with the Algerians was heavily limited. Due to this lack of revenue, the Dey of Algeria increased taxes, angering the people and led to a largely increase in pirate activity. The pirate activity had already hampered the Dey twice before in wars against the young United States, and the British bombardment in 1816. In 1827, the Dey demanded that the French re-pay a 28 year debt, dating to the buying of supplies for Napoleons Egyptian invasion. The answers by the French consul didn't satisfy the dey, who touched the consul with his fly-whisk. In return, the French conducted a blockage of Algeria, largely to the detriment of the French merchants. A french embassy got shelled at from an Algerian fort some years later, and this in turn proved the catalyst for a full on French invasion of the nation.
On June the 14th of the following year. A French fleet of over 100 warships and 35,000 men landed on the coastal town of Sidi Ferruch to minimal resistance. Within a few days the Dey had organized an army of around 10,000, including 1,000 janissaries. The French managed to keep this force at bay for two weeks, until siege batteries were managed to land. The following day, the fort defending the city of Algiers was attacked, with it falling on July the 4th. Costing 415 French casualties. The Dey was exiled to Naples, and negotiations continued on, before they could be settled, an administration was established for the city, with the intention to make the whole of Algeria a French Protectorate. Hardly had the news of the capture reached Paris than Charles X was deposed during the Three Glorious Days of July 1830. The occupation force was heavily cut following it, and local populations continued to resistance French ru

Andorra is a small nation situated between the French and Spanish border. The small nation has existed for over 1,000 years and left pretty much un-chanced since it's creation in the late 8th century.
Before 1095, Andorra did not have any type of military protection and the Bishop of Urgell, who knew that the Count of Urgell wanted to reclaim the Andorran valleys, asked the Lord of Caboet for help and protection. In 1095 the Lord of Caboet and the Bishop of Urgell signed under oath a declaration of their co-sovereignty over Andorra. With the passage of time, the co-title to Andorra passed to the kings of Navarre. After Henry of Navarre became King Henry IV of France, he issued an edict in 1607 that established the head of the French state and the Bishop of Urgell as co-princes of Andorra. In 1812–13, the First French Empire annexed Catalonia and divided it in four departments, with Andorra being included. The annexation only lasted until 1814, when Andorra regained it's independence. Andorra declared war on Germany during World War I, but did not actually take part in the fighting since it's extremely small military was meant for only ceremonial reasons.. It remained in an official state of war until 1939 as it was not included in the Treaty of Versailles. kidtrjkpdtkptgftgf9349054890

The awareness that conflict was coming created a short-lived panic. There was a huge increase in the demand for certain foodstuffs which caused a large price increase, especially in flour, during the last days of July. Already in August 1914 the first Norwegian declarations concerning export prohibitions and price regulations had been published. Further declarations were to follow. These declarations made it possible for the state to control much of the economy. The government issued an export ban making it impossible to sell Norwegian ships to other countries. Economically, Norway’s position as a neutral country was favorable, but politically it was rather vulnerable. Unable to feed itself and heavily dependent upon overseas imports, Norway was in an exposed position. While Germany was interested in keeping Norway neutral and continuing to receive supplies from it, Britain wanted Norway to become a part of the economic blockade of Germany and deny Germany the supplies it needed from foreign markets. The war drained the Norwegian government financially. Financing the neutrality guard was costly, as thousands of men were mobilized for more than four years. However, the real cost of government regulations was not felt until two years after the war with Norway having accumulated a massive debt. In the 1920s, the shifting government was left with a troublesome economic situation. This became even more difficult because of the decision to re-establish the gold standard. kidtrjkpdtkptgftgf9349054890
