This weekend I went on another adventure to a couple of places locally. The first was a solo overnight hammock camping at Morgan Monroe State Forest on the Low Gap Trail. The second was to meet up with a budding fellow YouTuber "Bill the Gear Guy" to check out some stone cabin ruins at the Charles C. Deam Wilderness near Monroe Lake close to Bloomington Indiana. I had a really great couple of days of adventure and of course wanted to share it all with you. In this video I also discuss some of the new gear that I was testing out for an upcoming longer thru hike I will be doing next week.

I have had my eye on this little gem for some time and finally decided to get one for myself. It has everything that I could ever want in an iPhone case for the most extreme adventures. In this video, I reveal my initial thoughts about it as well as go over some of the features that led to my decision to get one. You can make up your own mind as to whether the price is worth it or not, but for me I think it will be. I will do a follow up full review after I use the product for a while and let everyone know my thoughts. You can find them at this site: https://www.snowlizard.com/

Slumberjack reached out to me after they saw one of my other review videos about another tarp and asked me if I wanted to check out their Roadhouse Screen Tarp. Part of the reason I don't go on more summer truck camping trips has to do with bugs so I jumped at the chance. They sent me the item for free but did not tell me what to say. In this video, I give my honest feedback about this product.

This trip is one for the memory file. I spent two nights at land between the lakes over Christmas and trying out my new Gazelle T-4 tent. This tent is made for four people and I love the extra room. It made it very comfortable. I like the fact that the tent deploys in about 90 seconds. The two areas I camped at were GInger Bay and Clay Bay. Definitely enjoyed finding great camping. I even tried my hand at going down a trail but was stopped pretty quickly because of the clearance of my truck. I cannot express how much fun I had and how relaxing it was. I cooked lunch on my Firebox stove with the Trangia gas burner drop-in. Despite the wind, it worked perfectly. Thank you for watching my rambling video, hopefully, you got inspired to go camping in the winter as it can be a lot of fun

This video begins a new series on preparing for a road trip. These preparations are ones that I am taking and hope that maybe they will give someone some good ideas or things to consider when they are planning their own trip. In this first video, I talk about some of the modifications I am making to my van for comfort in the heat. I discuss some of the sources of my materials and show the idea I had to create more ventilation using magnetic screens. I plan to make screens for the front windows and possibly the side entrance as well.
Here is the link to the website I referenced that sell these pre-made:

In this video, I am testing out the difference between the new DJI Mavic Pro Low Noise Propellers and the ones that come with it. I wanted to see if they would reduce the noise and increase the flight time in a significant way so I did a little science experiment. You can buy a pair of these on the DJI site for $10, however you will need two pairs to make them work. You can also find them on Amazon at the following link: http://amzn.to/2hIDoqU
I am not so impressed with the noise reduction as I am that it could extend flight time to 30 minutes from the 23-26 minutes you are supposed to be able to get with the ones that come with it. In the future I will do a flight test to check that claim out. For now, this is a simple way to check the noise claims

Today I took a day hike on the Turkey Roost Trail at the Starve Hollow State Park Recreational Area. The interesting thing is that I tried to look up hiking videos on YouTube prior to embarking on this trip and I could not find any. So I decided this is a hike that needed to be shown.
The trail head to the Turkey Roost Trail is across from the Vallonia Nursery and Just down the street from the Drift town state fish hatchery. The only restroom facilities are at the Starve Hollow Campground. There are a few water sources on the trail (pond, creek etc).
Now let's talk about the trail itself. The trail starts out with a pretty steep climb to the top of a ridge, followed by some leveling out and then a second ascent which is not as bad as the first. You spend a good amount of time just walking along the ridge until right around mile 4 you descend into the valley for approximately one mile. This trail is marked as 5.6 but my GPS read it to be 7.7 totally (bad GPS app). The killer is the final ascent back up to the top of the ridge. This is a very steep grade and I had to stop several time to catch my breath. This was a challenging but fun trail. I would not recommend this to a beginner however. I think you need a little experience under your belt before you try this trail. Stay tuned to the end of this video for bonus footage.

I was contacted by Get Out Gear to see if I wanted to take a look at their down puffy blanket. My Costco one has seen better days so I was intrigued to see if this would be a good replacement for it. Turns outs, worked very well for the shoulder season. Winter into Spring and Summer into Fall. I like all of the features it has but wish it had just one more thing. In this video, I talk about how this could be almost the perfect down puffy blanket. They sent me this blanket for free but did not tell me what to say. Here are a few items they mentioned to me in their email about the product:
Pairing with sleeping bag: as a sleeping bag supplement - adds 10-15 degrees of warmth to your existing sleep system.
Compact, super lightweight, and warm
Down Puffy: 20D ripstop nylon shell. 650 Fill Power down insulation. DWR (durable water repellent) coating with nylon shell
3 Simple Snaps: “Pancho” hands-free option gives freedom to do more!
Diverse color options (new colors to come in the summer of ‘22)
Water Resistant (not proof), but repels water nicely when needed!

My good friend Jen and I took a trip to Indian Celina Lakes Recreation Area for a longer distance day hike. In the video I say it is 15.7 miles but I think it ended up closer to 13. This trail has some spots to it that have decent elevation and we also discovered some really neat campspots along the way. I highly recommend this trail as the journey around the two lakes makes it extra special. Lots of stream crossings along the way as well.

I just picked up these lenses for my iPhone and I have to say I am very impressed by them. I want to do more of my hikes on my iPhone 8 and this in combination with a DJI Osmo Mobile will take the videos to the next level. I am always searching for ways to improve quality and I think these Moment Lenses will be just the addition I need to make that happen.
These lenses are not cheap that is true but in my opinion, they are worth every penny as the build quality is second to none.
