[201] Elliott Wave predicting major down move and Steve Keen on Europe
On Tuesday, the US military said strikes by air force fighter planes, armed drones, and allied aircraft hit 22 targets in parts of Syria controlled by the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL. Five Arab countries including the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia helped carry out these airstrikes in Syria. But the big question now is: Were these strikes successful? Erin weighs in.
Then, Erin is joined by Steve Keen, head of the School of Economics, History, and Politics at Kingston University in London to discuss the UK and European economies. The mortgage credit accelerator has the UK decoupling from Euroland, which could be sinking into a debt deflation. Dr. Keen thinks this divergence cannot last.
After the break, Erin talks to Steve Hochberg, chief market analyst at Elliott Wave International, to discuss Elliott Wave Theory. Hochberg says Elliott Wave analysis is telling us we are on the precipice of a major down move in the markets. He sees this as another down move in a secular bear market that began at the beginning of this millennium.
And in The Big Deal, Erin is joined by Edward Harrison to talk about the Fed and the ECB. Edward sees the ECB making the latest salvo in the currency wars due to the lack of options to get credit growth re-animated. The debt super cycle which began in 1981 is coming to a close, limiting the power of monetary policy as a tool to reflate the economy.

Afterwards, Ameera sits down with Erin Ade to talk about Standard and Poor’s cutting its credit rating on several major European commercial banks this week. The downgrades come as S&P considers the uncertainty of whether the respective governments where these banks are located can and will provide the support their banking systems would require, should they fail.

During times of turmoil, people tend to pile into to safe haven assets. And many people’s favorite safe haven asset always has been and always will be gold, which is having a mixed year. Global demand for gold has hit a four-year low. However, thanks to turmoil in the Eurozone, gold has bounced back more than 3% this year after falling 28% the previous two years. Erin weighs in.
Then, Erin sits down with Marc Faber – editor and publisher of the Gloom, Boom & Doom Report and director of Marc Faber Ltd. Marc tell us what he why he believes this is the year that people will lose confidence in central banks. He also gives his usual nod to buying physical gold outside of the United States. But he admits he likes the gold miners right now as a way to get exposure to the sector.
After the break, Erin talks to Jim Pearce – CIO of Baton Investing. Jim explains how technology and the Internet are affecting financial services and tells us where the biggest opportunities for a mass market offering in finance are. His most recent film, "Money for Nothing: Inside the Federal Reserve" warns of a US central banking system that has, "lost its way."
