The ancients warned us that this disastrous demagogical phase of government leads to the worst form of government which is tyranny. Gustave Le Bon and Sigmund Freud described how crowds often enter into a hypnotic state which enables leaders to imprint hypnotic and post-hypnotic suggestions into the minds of the masses and easily direct the fickle crowd to commit violent and destructive acts which can either be glorious and heroic or heinous and criminal. The leader becomes the mind of a greater organism which directs the body of the mob that obeys its master without any ability to resist; just as a person under hypnosis surrenders their mind, reason and will to the hypnotizer.
