Mortal Kombat 12 Exclusive: MK12 CANCELLED FOR LAST GEN, PS5/XBSX ONLY SONY TO END PS4 | NEWS UPDATE
Sony has revealed that it's planning to finally wind down the PlayStation 4. First released back in 2013, the PS4 has gone on to become not only one of Sony's most successful consoles but it's also become one of the top-selling video game platforms ever. Despite this, Sony is now looking to sell the PS5 as its primary hardware, which means that the PS4 is naturally coming to an end. Now, thanks to new guidance from Sony, we have an idea of when the PS4 may officially be going away.
Outlined in Sony's latest financial presentation, it was made clear that games for PS4 will be gone by 2025. This doesn't mean that legacy PS4 games will no longer be purchasable, but Sony is clearly planning to be done with releasing new titles on the platform by this time. Instead, by 2025, Sony has projected that the majority of its revenue associated with games will stem from PlayStation 5, with titles on PC and mobile also bringing in the other half of its income.
As a whole, this obviously shouldn't be surprising given that the PS5 will be Sony's main focus in the years to come. Still, it's worth stressing that at this very moment, the PS4 is a platform that Sony is still manufacturing and releasing games for. In fact, this year's biggest PlayStation game, God of War Ragnarok, is still expected to release on PS4 whenever it does arrive.
At some point in the coming years, Sony will likely end up making a bigger announcement related to the PS4 and the official end of its life cycle. As we've now been informed, though, this announcement should end up coming about before 2025 rolls around, so be sure to prepare accordingly.

The finale of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath leaves the MK Universe at a timeline reset, paving the way for a fresh start in Mortal Kombat 12.
The finale of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath creates a pathway for a fresh start in the future of the franchise. Since the first game's release in 1992, Mortal Kombat has constantly expanded its lore through background information on its characters, spin-off titles, and even the use of additional game modes such as the Krypt in MK11 or Konquest Mode in Deception and Armageddon. Going into the future of the series, Mortal Kombat 12 could explore this lore further by moving away from its current roster.
Elements of the deeper lore of Mortal Kombat have been present throughout the franchise's existence, but it has mostly been relegated to background history and world-building subtext. The ancestry of Kung Lao, which links him back to Earthrealm's first champion of the tournament, remains an underlying story for the members of the Order of Light and its White Lotus Society. Although this history is often referenced, the series has not taken many opportunities to dive further into it. Instead, the series has focused on its current timeline. However, with the timeline reset at the end of Aftermath's good ending, the groundwork is laid for the series to deviate from its present roster of fighters.
When Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath sets the series back in time at the conclusion of its good ending, players are given a choice to play the final confrontation between Shang Tsung and Fire God Liu Kang as either character. Choosing Liu Kang and defeating Outworld's sorcerer sends the story's finale down the path of a new timeline as Liu Kang uses Kronika's Crown and the power of the Hourglass to begin its construction. In doing so, Liu Kang meets the Great Kung Lao, offering to prepare him for what's to come, which could potentially place Mortal Kombat 12 in the past.
The good ending in MK11: Aftermath places the storyline in the very distant past of the franchise. In doing so, this creates the possibility of a clean slate in regards to its roster. Most characters in the current timeline would not be alive in the era of the Great Kung Lao. Beyond Liu Kang taking the role once belonging to Raiden as Earthrealm's protector, as well as the inevitable clash between Kung Lao and Shang Tsung, this era of Mortal Kombat could - and should - see the introduction of new faces from the past.
Many of the franchise's fan-favorites would not be alive during the timeline of Earthrealm's first Mortal Kombat tournament. However, if MK 12 follows the events of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, it gives the franchise a chance to reboot with a brand-new roster of characters in an otherwise unexplored part of Mortal Kombat's history. Rebooting the series by going backwards in time would be interesting, and creating a roster of new characters would flesh out the rich legacy of the franchise.

It is known that his father, a former member of the Shirai Ryu, forbade his son from joining the clan, as he did not wish for his son to live the life of an assassin. However, Hanzo joined in spite of his father's wishes in order to provide his wife and son with a comfortable life.
After he and his clan are exterminated, Scorpion reappears as a hell-spawned spectre, inexorably seeking vengeance against those responsible for the destruction of his family and clan. As a result of Quan Chi's manipulation, he initially believes Bi-Han, a ninja from the rival Lin Kuei clan and the original Sub-Zero, to be responsible for the massacre. He confronts and kills Bi-Han at the first tournament, inadvertently spawning the undead wraith Noob Saibot. He wouldn't learn until much later that it was Quan Chi, not Bi-Han, who committed the genocide, to which he responded by torturing Quan Chi in the Netherrealm in the original timeline. In the second timeline, he would get his revenge after being restored to his human form, eventually tracking Quan Chi down and executing him.
In most early Mortal Kombat media, due in large part to his sinister and malevolent appearance, Scorpion is typecast in a villainous role. As such, he has had many incursions with the forces of good. However, he is not actually evil. He joins the forces of evil only when promised a means of resurrecting his clan on Earth, or the chance to inflict his wrath against those who butchered them. Although he is featured alongside the Forces of Darkness in the opening scene of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, he remains officially neutral because of his fierce hatred for Quan Chi.
In more recent MK media (the second timeline in particular), Scorpion is portrayed in a more heroic light, and is perceived by fans to be the title's foremost anti-hero. He undertakes actions that benefit the forces of good, albeit in his own gruesome and vigilante manner. His attitude, appearance, and self-reliance have all contributed to his popularity. Compared to the purely virtuous "good guys", and the diabolically evil "bad guys", Scorpion's moral ambiguity is unique.
When his mask is on, Scorpion mostly resembles an ordinary human. The only recognizable differences are the demonic inflection in his voice, his glowing and pupilless white eyes, and his ability to emit (as well as withstand) fire. Removing his mask reveals a human skull, oftentimes ablaze. Scorpion's most popular and recognized skill is his famous spear attack, which is used to pull an opponent toward him.
