This is from Sunday:
❤️❤️❤️ This morning when I went down to the barn for the morning chores to bring water and put hay out for everybody I saw something between Chloe‘s feet.
My thought was what is that, is that a bunny or something?
My brain literally could not compute what I saw which was a black baby lamb. We didn’t even know that the sheep was pregnant, would we have known we could have prepared. We didn’t know that the sheep were together with the rams before they were surrendered to us.
I was literally in complete shock and then I heard another little sound and I saw the other little sheep that was stuck in a pallet and couldn’t get out. It was still wet and really cold and much thinner than the other one. It took me a few moments to get it out of there and it was shivering like crazy.
I was literally frantic and the first thing I thought I needed to do is bring the freezing little lamb into the warm so I brought it up to the cabin and put it on my chest and covered it with wool sweaters.
Then I called Annie, Amy and Thea and all three were here as quickly as they possibly could.
Thea who is a goat and sheep farmer immediately knew what to do and stayed with the mama and the babies and tried to get them to nurse. Amy was in the kitchen boiling water and making some formula bottles just in case and Annie and I jumped in the truck and got a bunch a straw bales and pallets to prepare for another stall because we also found out that Frankie must be pregnant as well and could also have her babies really soon!
The wind was absolutely wicked and blowing like crazy and it was really cold and started snowing. But we finally created a stall for Chloe and her babies that is nice and warm with lots of straw and wool blankets hanging up to keep the wind out.
Christina from Guy's Farm and Yard - Morrisville also stopped by after work since she is also a farmer and had some great advice.
I am incredibly in love with the little babies and all the animals here and I sincerely hope that both of those little lambs will make it through since they had a very rough start, not having been prepared for them at all.
The reason they are still alive are definitely the four women who came by and immediately were hands-on and there for all of us. We all need a community especially in times when things don’t go the way we anticipate.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Thea, Annie, Amy and Christina!!!❤️❤️❤️
