Someone threw out an old Raleigh 20 folding bicycle on trash day. The more I look at it the better shape it is in. I have ordered some chrome cleaner and need to fix the 3 speed Sturmey Archer shifter but it looks like a tough bike. I wiped the dirt and grease off of the rear hub and found the date, the bike was made in November 1972. I plan on seeing if I can figure out a way to add a sail to the bike and ride it on the levee roads out in the Florida Everglades a few miles from my home. I will do a few videos showing how well the bike cleaned up and what I had to do to get the shifter to work and obviously whatever happens to my sail lunacy. Stay tuned. PS I am not a bicycle guy and haven't messed around with them since I was a kid, or before this bike was made. I know there are a lot of bike experts on YT, if I get something wrong in my technical or practical description or application don't go crazy on me, not a bike expert, just trying to have some fun.

I wanted to make an experiment and try to make a composite knife made from several layers of flat tin can metal and JB Weld but could only find corrugated metal cans in my cupboard, so I made instead a can lid vegetable knife. I have not seen anyone else do this which makes me happy. It came out pretty good. If you want to see somebody making some cool knives check out brad over at BCTruck who is a beginner and is already making very nice real knives. https://www.youtube.com/user/bctruck
This knife I made from a tin can lid actually chopped veggies better than most small knives I have on hand, I also like the way the handle came out with the wood burner. It is pretty crude, I just used my Rockwell Bladerunner and some sand paper and an old electric wet stone knife grinder that is older than I am. The little upholstery tacks also look cool and the gorilla Glue does an extraordinary job of attaching metal to softwood. I had no idea how this would turn out and i am pretty happy with it so long as I only use it on vegetables and light duty kitchen stuff. After all, it is just a lid from a tin can.
I hope you guys like this and try making one. if I get some flat noncorrugated metal cans I will try making a regular style knife with some JB weld as I had intended.
if you are interested in wood burning here is the link to the one I used. I have very little experience with a wood burner but it is a lot of fun and I have discovered you can make cool designs on your woodworking projects with a wood burner with very little time and effort.

This video consists of four parts. One part is a review of my Honeywell Hepa air filter model 50250-S and the terminology used to describe and rate HEPA filters, the second is a list of criteria used to select a home air filter, the third is a discussion on my views of using a HEPA air filter to reduce at-home exposure to the virus by filtering out airborne aerosols that may contain the virus and the last and fourth part is a discussion on a NASA study on HEPA air filters. The NASA study appears to show that by reducing the speed of an air filter its effectiveness at capturing particulate matter can be greatly improved and also how a filter rated at 0.3 microns may actually under certain conditions trap much smaller matter than the filter is rated at.
I no longer see the 50250-S for sale. I am not going to give you a list of air filters, but If I were to buy another Honeywell air filter I would get the one below. It is renewed (refurbished) and sold by Amazon so if you are a tightwad like me the price saving is good and it was highly rated on Consumer reports..

One of my first jobs out of high school, about a hundred years ago, was working for Hester Martz in her commercial plant nursery in North Miami. I got along well with all of the employees. I was the only one. She was very old and could not afford to retire.
She could also not afford to pay much at all, which is about what I got paid.
She would buy a dump truck of good top soil at a time from an old nursery worker friend. Hester and her husband had worked in a local nursery in the neighborhood run by Mr and Mrs Hogshead, before starting their own plant nursery. Harry drove a taxi at night to get the nursery off the ground, or maybe I should say, in it.
Hester also bought hundreds of used number 10 metal food cans from a Lutheran church member who was a school cafeteria lady at a cost of only a few cents a piece. The cans would come stacked in cardboard trays made from boxes and we would use the trays to grow seedlings. She did not buy much else.
Hester was a tightwad. We got along fine.
Nearly 100 percent of the plants were grown on site from air layering or cuttings or spores or seeds. It was wonderful. To see the cycle of plant growth, to propagate everything and nurture and and help it grow and then sell to some one to replant out in the world was extremely satisfying. Also, working with plants was so refreshing as they had certain needs and requirements, and if you met them, they rewarded you. There was no office politics, political correctness, turf wars or social or cultural or personal bias. Plants do not care about you. Not how smart or rich or poor or stupid. Do what they need and they will do what you want them to. We grew thousands of plants. A little of us was everywhere in south Florida. It was the most relaxing and least tense job I ever held.
Twice a week we watered the entire stock by hand, Hester was too poor and cheap to install automatic watering, and the land would be a big puddle after our hiking with the hoses. I would walk barefoot all day.
I also got to work barefoot in the merchant marines in my next job.
One of my fondest memories is telling a boss much later in life, in a much more sophisticated and civilized and technological and business oriented job that all the best jobs I ever had were ones I could work barefoot. The look I received is not describable, but unforgettable, and still enjoyable.
To grow our thousands of seedlings we would make mud pies in the cardboard trays with dark rich humus filled compost. We used our fingers like 3 year olds. I have to admit it was a major part of the appeal.
We sat on 5 gallon metal cans sitting under shady paper trees and ficus. The cans we sat on would slowly sink into the dark dirt and our knees would rise up to meet us as we sat and stooped and worked and played

Explore the 55 and over community of Sunrise Lakes, Florida with me on my Jetson Bolt Ebike while I explain the pros and cons of living in Sunrise Lakes since 2010.
If you are on a budget and trying to live on Social Security you may find this video helpful.
In this video, join me on a ride through Sunrise Lakes, a charming 55 and over adult community located in Broward County. I'll explore the neighborhood and showcase its highlights while recording with my DJI Osmo Pocket video camera. Experience Sunrise Lakes as I take you along on my Jetson Bolt Ebike. Throughout the tour, I'll provide insights into the pros and cons of living in this community, offering an objective perspective on the unique lifestyle it offers to retirees. Discover the amenities, social scene, and affordability factors that make Sunrise Lakes an attractive option for those looking to live comfortably on their Social Security income.
This video was recorded with my DJI Osmo pocket at 4K and 24 FPS
I will be doing more videos on living on Social Security and how to get by on a limited income.
If enough people like this video I will do a more detailed video on the ownership cost and the pros and cons of living in Sunrise Lakes. This was basically just an ebike ride through my community while talking off the top of my head about living here.
If you have any topics you would like to discuss. Let me know in the comments.
This is the first time I have filmed outdoors on my bicycle with the DJI Osmo pocket camera. I apologize for the audio. In future videos. I will experiment with making the audio less susceptible to wind gusts while riding the bicycle.
Also, I had the camera attached to my bicycle helmet and did not realize how uncomfortable it would be to watch my head move back and forth while recording. I was concentrating on being safe on the bicycle. I think I can do better next time.
However, I was pleasantly surprised at the video quality and except for some strong gusts that overpowered the microphone even the audio is not that bad. I purchased the camera used on eBay for $105. So far I'm liking a lot better than the Insta 360 which cost me over $300.
Not many people know this but YouTube now allows viewers to leave a tip by using the thanks button below the videos on YouTube at least on some channels.

What's a little Botulism on a Tuesday? I was in my pantry getting lunch and spotted something wholly new and thought I would share. Actually, it wasn't that new, which was part of the problem. However, I have had old cans in my pantry all my life and never saw this before. It looked a lot like frog turds. When I was a kid we lived in a house that had a back yard shed, and it was full of frogs, and they left grey turds that were the same shape as this. Shiny too. I am puzzled how two pinholes were made in the sides of the cans.
I am going to be a lot more cautious about the expiration dates of my canned goods in the future.

This is one of those videos I made for myself.
It is a video of a rainy day with thunder that should help me sleep or relax.
It is better than all of the rainy day thunder storm relaxation sleep and mindfulness
videos that are on youtube as it is really happening and not made from sound clips.
it has been raining in Sunrise Florida for 4 days.
I love the rain and the sound of the rain. I figure the next time we have a drought I can listen to this to cheer me up. I have also wanted to make a video I could use Kevin MacLeod's tune Westminster for a long time. This tune was perfect for the video.
There was a moment in the video I thought of something and started laughing. Since you can't
see my face it could sound like I am crying.
The thought that some viewers might think that is even funnier than what made me laugh.
When I started laughing I was thinking of what I
could title the video I was making. I thought of the title Slow Down,
which made me think of the 'what does a yellow light mean' gag in the
old TV series Taxi. it is one of the funniest scenes I ever saw on TV.
here it is.

Not many people know this, but Star Trek had the technology to transport Captain Kirk and his crew while sitting in their chairs, they did not have to use a transporter room, they could have transported down to the surface of a planet from their chairs on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.
Unfortunately, as we see in this rare video, sometimes the chairs ended up being transported in error instead of the crew thereby creating what was known by some members of the United Federation of Planets as a negative chair manifestation.
Little known Star Trek fact #42
OK,
I am not going crazy, I was just walking and saw the chair and it reminded me of a chair from star trek and then I thought wouldn't it be funny if Star Trek had screwups just like normal people and technology, and what if by accident sometimes they sent a chair instead of a person that was sitting in it which is why they had to go to the teleporter and stand up instead of sitting down in a chair. It was funny to me. Dammit Jim! It still is!

I just learned today how to speed up or slow down YouTube videos while I am watching them. It is extremely simple and easy to do.
Basically, all you need to do is plug in youtube.com/html5 in your browser and go to the page and click on the button requesting in the future you use html5 as the default YouTube browser. What this does is give you the option to adjust video speed up or down in the settings which is accessed by clicking on the settings icon below your YouTube video.
I hope this tip helps, please share it with anyone you think might like it and please subscribe as I am trying to grow my channel.
I add new videos every week and have over 300 videos, many playlists of interesting topics and I also feature some cool youtubers on my channel you might like to check out.
