At Twist Mountain, there is a hidden cave in the basement of the mountain where you must use Strength to move boulders. After moving the boulders, you’ll see Regigigas. To awaken this Pokémon, you must have Regirock, Regice, and Registeel equipped in your team. Save your game before you interact. Regigigas is on Level 68. It has only half the Attack and Speed for the first 5 turns due to its Slow Start ability. Dusk Balls would be recommended since you’re battling in a cave. After you get the Pokédex, go back to Route 30 and Joey will be your first opponent of all trainers in the wilderness. Joey dispatches Rattata to battle. After winning, you have the option to get his phone number to register to the PokéGear so you have a rematch with him later.

The gym of Celadon City has a maze with small trees that require Cut to remove. After navigating the maze, you’ll take on the gym leader. Erika uses Grass type Pokémon. Jumpluff will use Leech Seed to slowly drain the HP of the target every turn and U-turn to switch out after causing damage. Tangela will use Sleep Powder to put the target to sleep and Ancientpower for a 10% chance of raising all of its stats. Victreebel will use Sunny Day to change the weather for 5 turns and Synthesis to restore its HP. Bellossom will use Solar Beam to deal big damage, which will not need to wait a turn when sunlight is in effect. After the battle, you’ll receive the Rainbow Badge and a TM19 (Giga Drain). Giga Drain restores the user’s HP by half the amount of damage the target took.

After completing your mission at Silph Co. and getting all the other 7 gym badges, return to Viridian City and enter the gym. This gym has a maze with items and arrow tiles that make you spin. You’ll battle a few trainers as you navigate the maze. Once you solve the maze, you’ll take on Giovanni once more. Giovanni uses Ground type Pokémon. Dugtrio has great Speed and will use Dig to avoid attacks the first turn then strike the next turn. Nidoqueen will use Body Slam to paralyze targets while Nidoking will use Thrash to repeat for 2-3 turns then become confused. Rhydon knows Horn Drill and Fissure, both of each move that takes an opponent down in one hit but doesn’t work if a target is faster. After winning, you’ll receive the Earth Badge and a TM27 (Fissure). Fissure is a Ground type move that takes an opponent down in one hit but won’t work against faster targets.

After your mission at Stark Mountain, you can battle Buck at the Battleground’s café. Shuckle will combo will Toxic and Protect. Umbreon has a 3-way combo by using Confuse Ray, Double Team, and Dark Pulse. Torkoal will use Eruption when full on HP and Will-O-Wisp to burn targets. Dusknoir knows all 3 elemental punching attacks that can cause status problems like paralysis, burning, or even freezing. Claydol will use Calm Mind to raise its Special stats then unleash its power. Moves like Surf would be a good use for this round.
