Is a human rights offense considered an actual crime or just a moral failing?
Human rights is a universal concept that is present in many academic disciplines as well as many areas of public life. This wide presence allows human rights offenses to be considered both crimes and moral offenses. For example, in education, human rights courses can be taught as an international studies course, where the discussion would focus on morality, or as a law course, where the discussion would center around legality. On a broader scale, the United Nations has created documents that cover both moral and legal boundaries. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQvxzhLyFt4

A summary: What is Sunna and Hadith? Understanding the primary sources of Islamic teachings and practices;
The meanings and functions of Sunna, Hadith, Isnad, Matn;
The collections of Hadith and the time during which the Hadith was written down.
Muslims believe that the Hadith or Sunna, as a category, is also a form of divine revelation, inspiration; but differs from Quran in a number of ways:
Hadith/Sunna was not written down during the lifetime of the Prophet;
Hadith/Sunna was not and is not memorized verbatim;
Hadith/Sunna was written down during the 3rd Islamic century;
A Hadith unit, often a very brief “story”, consists of two parts:
Chain of Transmitters, Attribution (isnad), and
Content, moral-of-the-story (matn)
_____
Early Muslim Hadith Scholars relied on the Chain of Transmitters (isnad) to evaluate the reliability and authenticity of individual hadith traditions: Only reliable persons of probity forming the chain of transmitters (not its content) could qualify a hadith to be rated as sound (sahih), for example. Other factors were also included to produce these ratings of hadith:
Sound (sahih),
Good (hasan),
Weak (da`if), and
Made-up (mawdu`).
_______
In addition to rating Hadith as Sound, Good, Weak, or Made-up, early Muslim Hadith Scholars also used the Chain of Transmitters (isnad) to distinguish between Types of Hadith:
Hadith Mutawatir: a tradition that was reported by a large group of persons of probity over the three layers (generations) of transmitters
Hadith Mashhur : a tradition reported by one or more disciples in the first layer, and then by large group of persons of probity over the two layers (generations) of transmitters
Hadith Ahad : a tradition reported by one or few (less than the number needed for Tawatur) persons of probity in each of the three layers (generations) of transmitters
______
Functions and Uses of Hadith/Sunna:
Interpretive: a commentary and explanation of the Quran,
Complementary: adds context, laws and guidelines on matters not covered in the Quran,
Adaptative: apply the teachings of the Quran to new events, and
Authorizing: connects the teachings of the Quran to lived experiences.
