In Matanzas province between the towns of Cardenas and Horacio Rodriguez lies a Serpentine Savanna that is home to two rare native palms of Cuba: Copernicia glabrescens var. ramosissima and Coccothrinax miraguama var. roseocarpa. The Coccothrinax miraguama var. roseocarpa grow allover the area whilst the Copernicia glabrescens var. ramosissima are mostly restricted to the lowest, wettest areas.
