Double M9-R and Looser Gimbals Makes Huge Difference | FPV Racing
In the last video, I was playing around with throttle caps. At the same time, in the past month or so, I've been fiddling with looser gimbal sticks. I used to fly with tight sticks but for some reason, it never occurred to me that tight sticks would hinder me from flying faster and better. I always thought I could work around it and get used to different rates instead, or fiddling with BF's Feed Forward for faster stick feel. Now I know why my previous tests with different rates never felt locked in enough or just felt generally awkward -- my stick tension was getting in my way.

I switched out the right gimbal (a normal M9 Hall Effect Gimbal) for M9-R, so I'm using double M9-Rs now. I'm still undecided if this change is helping me or fecking me over but the last two clips in this video (with 95% throttle caps) are flown on double M9-R.

Also, since I'm sponsored by 3BHobby motors now, I tested 2207.5 and 2306.5 1900KV motors with R38 and R42 props from HQProps respectively. Take my testing with a grain of salt, simply because I've flown 2207.5 motors way longer than 2306.5, so I need to factor in muscle memory.

Some people might think my findings are pretty obvious (like, duh, why won't I know this?), honestly I don't think I'd be aware of the flight handling feeling between the two motors half a year ago. I've grown as a pilot since then, and I'm just sharing what I have discovered.

Things I liked/don't like about 2306.5 + R42
- Testing it with R38 first, it was simply underpowered. Good control on low end, but it moved like a snail on straights.
- Which leads to the next point: why the hell did I pair R42 with 2207.5 in the past?
- With R42 on 2306.5, I loved how locked in and smooth it felt compared to 2207.5+ R38, however, on technical stuff like corkscrews, the throttle curve on 2306.5 just messed me up.
- The low-end torque is nice and I'm finding myself braking faster than 2207.5 +R38.
- I'm no engineer, but I suspect I need higher rates/FF values for a more nimbler feel on this combo. Using the same rates/FF values as my 2207.5 +R38 setup ended up feeling unresponsive when moving through technical obstacles. The wider motor size comes into play I think, better handling when I'm not braking and throttling so often.
- I suppose this combo will definitely better on mid-high speed flowy tracks. Not the typical track designs in Taiwan.
