In this video I will be showing you an easy way to separate the Red currants from the stalks and we will make a Jelly.

Ingredients:
500gm of Redcurrants after washing
350 - 400 gm of caster sugar
1 tsp of lemon juice ( or 1/2 tsp of citric acid)
100 ml of water
Method:
Mix all the ingredients into a heavy bottom pot and set it on medium heat.
After all the sugar has melted the fruit will start cooking.
Strain the juice from the berries and stalks and cook for about 10 min.
After about 10 min. or so it starts thickening.
Reduce the heat.
Keep stiring to avoid burning and to attain an even consistency.
How to test if its ready for bottling?
Add a few drops to a plate and tilt the plate slightly.
Repeat the process till the it reaches a jelly like consistency. Now its ready for bottling.
Switch off the heat. And set all the sterilised jars on a tea towel.
This will help in preventing the jam jars from cracking while filling the hot jelly.
Fill the jars to the brim and close the lid tightly.

In this video, I will be showing you how to prepare banana flower before cooking. We harvested this flower from our own garden.
Although this is time consuming, its worth the while. You can make many tasty recipes.
Keep a bowl of yogurt diluted with water and a little salt. This is to avoid the flowers getting black.
Then peel out the petals individually and then remove each pollen out.
Open the pollen and remove the hard nerve out. Continue till you can and then you can chop it and make delicious curries.

Hello everyone,
I am happy to take you on this tour of our fall garden.
Here at the Swiss garden we have had rapid changes with the falling temperatures and decreasing daylight.
This past week the night temperatures dropped to between 5 to 3 degrees. We also had cold north winds blowing which accounted for this sudden drop in temperatures.
As a result we had to bring in our curry plants inside, which will be housed till spring under special lights to continue thriving.
Not much has changed with the vegetables so we are harvesting what we can. At the same time we are preparing our garden for the winter planting season.
We have planted some seedlings of the winter cauliflower and savoy cabbages and some Lamb's lettuce. This lettuce is a tasty winter salad which will grow till spring. A favorite of my husband's.
We have sown the seeds for winter spinach and covered the bed to avoid the birds picking on the seeds and seedlings. Could plant some more Brussel sprouts.
We have harvested all of the snake gourds, sea buck thorn berries, some more tomatoes, small Mexican cucumbers and some bell peppers. We have also left the berries for the birds to eat during the winter.
All in all we are satisfied with our organic garden so far despite our beginner's difficulties. I have had fewer trips to the health food store for vegetables since spring. It has been very satisfying to consume food from our garden.

Navaratri in Sanskrit mean 9 nights. The predominant dieties for these festivities is the worship of Goddess Lakshmi (Goddess of Fortune), Goddess Saraswathi (for learning and knowledge) and Goddess Durga (for strength and Valor).
We love to celebrate this festival and this also gives us an occasion to invite many Swiss and expat Indian friends and socialize in addition to getting some spiritual benefits.
