If you have ever driven an FMTV, you know they shift like a mule! In order to solve this issue, you must FLUSH the engine oil that is currently in the OEM Allison transmission with good transmission oil that is recommended by the manufacturer. While you are at it, changing the filters is also necessary. Why does the transmission have engine oil, you ask? Because the military wanted to make it dummy-proof. There is only one oil that goes in almost everything on the truck... you guessed it... engine oil. The transmission can operate fine on the engine oil, but not at its peak performance. Many folks have elected to use Transynd Transmission oil, which is an excellent product. However, the cost of the flush with Transynd is ridiculously high. Other options that are fully synthetic are available.
