Alex Dunn, a rising artist in the Pacific Northwest, teams up with Color Red to showcase his polished, reflective style of country-tinged folk/rock in “Finally” The lyrics of detail a letter Dunn wrote to himself and the reply—an optimistic Americana tale of self-inquiry and reflection. Both are searching for an answer about how far the other will go to find themselves. Dunn approaches his music with oceanic rhythms in mind, in an effort to capture his background spending so much of the past 15 years working and living on fishing boats in Southeast Alaska. “Finally” is the lead single off of a forthcoming 8-track album to be released in fall 2021. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZveTqE6v70
“Mirage à Trois” presents a daring merger between downtempo disco and Southern funk. Dragondeer’s insightful play on words draws attention to the relationship between the proverbial me, myself, and I. “Call it paranoia or delusion...it's a cautionary tale of getting past the tricks your mind can play on you,” vocalist Eric Halborg explains. Casey Sidwell’s bass line, Carl Sorensen’s drum pocket and Thievery Corporation's Jeff Franca's tasteful percussion represent initial stability. Guitar exchanges between Cole Rudy and Analog Son guitarist Jordan Linit spiral into energy that lends itself into spinning thoughts and hazy daydreams. Halborg and Linit heighten the hallucinatory tale through wistful solos as the song ramps up then fades out mirroring an illusion rather than a crash and burn.

Backbeat Underground enters a parallel universe to reimagine the Grateful Dead classic “Sugaree” with an early 70s, analog soul flair. Bandleader Satya Thallam paints a vivid narrative where the Dead return from their 1972 European tour and instead of pursuing a solo album, Jerry insists the band veer off and swing through Muscle Shoals for a session with the Swampers. In this session, they give the 12/8 folk-like classic a fresh coat of paint with a 4/4 soulful groove lathered in horns. To bring his vision to life, the band enlisted DC vocal legend Joe Quarterman to make the tune rich with Alabama flavor. Backbeat Underground entered Color Red’s orbit while sharing the stage with The New Mastersounds and Matador! Soul Sounds during their east coast appearances. The group collaborated with Eddie Roberts to bring the reincarnated version of the classic tune to the music platform and put it on display for heads and funk lovers alike.

Michelle Sarah’s “I Will Be Here” is the perfect song to close out an invigorating set as it pulls out all the stops with vocal stacks, memorable sing-a-long melodies, and rousing horn parts courtesy of the Groupo Fantasma horn section. The lyrics give the audience an empowering message to take home with them as they speak to going out there and seizing what you want and knowing that you have the support to go do so. Michelle enlisted Steve Berlin of Los Lobos to produce her upcoming debut solo record with sessions taking place at Mighty Fine Productions in Denver, CO and Bud’s Recording Services in Austin, TX.

Brothers of Brass mash up their backgrounds in Southern brass music and HBCU marching bands to come out of the gate swinging on their debut original single “Legal State.” The brisk track is brimming with energy with strident tuba bass lines, sprightly brass leads, and high-powered saxophone solos. The group composed the tune over the course of a week reflecting on cannabis remaining illegal in Southern states while it is legal and enjoyed recreationally in Colorado. Brothers of Brass will steadily be releasing more original material throughout 2020.

“Gonna Get In My Way” by The New Mastersounds musically started as a homage to The Allman Brothers Band with a southern funk guitar riff played on both electric guitar and acoustic slide guitar. The group enlisted vocalist Shelby Kemp of the Mississippi-based band Royal Horses to pen the lyrics. Kemp details that the track is written from the perspective of a working musician and notes that it’s an “inside looking out description of the struggles of finding and being one’s true self.” The southern roots of the song struck a chord with Lamar Williams Jr. son of the late Allman Brothers’ bassist Lamar Williams (1972-1976), who made it his own memorable anthem and laid it down in one take. The track is the lead single off of The New Mastersounds’ forthcoming album ‘The Deplar Effect,’ recorded at Floki Studios in Northern Iceland in collaboration with Color Red and Eleven Music Experiences.
