The father of Omran Daqneesh, on his 11 year old, Mohammad Ali
"Mr. Daqneesh denied any knowledge of a Russian or Syrian airstrike, saying that he had not heard any airplanes at the time. He added that his son’s injury was mild, but had been exaggerated in the news, adding that Omran was at ease and had since returned to normalcy in his home in Aleppo. On June 6, I met with Omran and Mr. Daqneesh at their Aleppo home to inquire about the incident. In a small sitting room outside their apartment, Mohammad Daqneesh was able to provide some more answers."
"Ali ended up at the same hospital as Omran, where he stayed for three days before passing away. “I went there to find them and take them out of there. I needed some stitches, but I didn’t get it done there, I didn’t trust them. I asked a nurse elsewhere to do it,” Daqneesh said.
But the hospital in question had a dark side to it. Pierre Le Corf, a French citizen who has lived in Aleppo for over a year, looked into the hospital after eastern Aleppo was secured.
“The [hospital] was held and managed by [al-]Nusra and the Tahrir Party. It was funded and supported by SAMS (Syrian-American Medical Society), and there were SAMS posters all over the hospital. Doctors there were more like interns, not actual doctors but they received intensive training for a period,” Le Corf told me in Aleppo."

Yesterday, visiting Rossiya Segodnya (which translates to Russia Today--but is not actually RT) in Moscow, I was told about a photojournalist named Andrei Stenin, who was martyred 5 years ago yesterday, in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine. According to Sputnik, Stenin was killed on August 6, "the car he was driving was fired upon; its charred remains were found on the highway.
The photojournalist specialised in documenting the human side of accidents, riots, military interventions and armed conflicts. His work took him to some of the world's most dangerous places, including Syria, the Gaza Strip, Libya and Turkey, among other places." On January 7th & 8th, Ukrainian forces shelled two Thermal Power Plants & a commercial building in areas around Donetsk, killing two people, all with western weapons.
Ukraine's terrorism of 2022, and since 2014 in fact, continues into 2023, unsurprisingly. Just as unsurprisingly, Western media ignores or whitewashes it, and the West keeps absurdly pledging more weapons to Ukraine.
Geopolitical analyst Brian Berletic routinely notes that the weapons/military aid the west supplies Ukraine is no where near what Ukraine needs to recover its losses, much less challenge Russia.
And the West knows this, knows their weapons are being used instead to slaughter Donbass civilians and target infrastructure, and still they send it....

Scenes from old Damascus yesterday, during Eid. Yesterday, the partial curfew that had been in place for around one month was lifted and I was told universities are set to re-open.
The mood was indeed festive yesterday.
That said, even when the curfew was in place, it wasn't a big deal --7:30 pm to 6 am--and wasn't super-strictly enforced, according to friends in different cities. I've written about Syria and Corona before and will post those links below.

the american high school was bombed by Israeli warplanes on the night of January 3, 2009. Upon arriving at the bombed school, a search for survivors or martyrs was done. In the pitch dark, without adequate lighting and under threat of at any moment being bombed again by the Israeli warplanes, we were unable to find the martyr's body and had to return at first light. The youth, a teen from the area, was the night watchman at the school. His dead body was burned and mutilated by the bombing.
The heroic medic, Arafa, was killed later that day, by an israeli dart (flechette) bomb, fired directly at the ambulance he stood next to, one of israel's many war crimes in Gaza.
