How to Downgrade Your PS Vita & PSTV Firmware with modoru!
modoru by TheFloW is an application which allows you to downgrade your Vita console's firmware to the lowest factory firmware your exact system is capable of running! However the most exciting benefit of this is you can use modoru on your modified console to downgrade to firmware 3.60 or 3.65 and install Ensō alongside HENkaku for a permanent modification! You are free to follow along with this tutorial to downgrade to any firmware version your console is capable of running, however if you are looking to downgrade to a permanent modified firmware solution, 3.60 is the most recommended firmware. If your console is not capable of downgrading to 3.60 firmware, 3.65 would be the next recommended firmware.
It should be noted that this tutorial is recommended for Vita consoles up to firmware 3.73. This tutorial also assumes you have a Vita console set up with HENkaku/h-encore/Trinity and have the basic understanding of how to transfer files as well as modify your config.txt file to load plugins through the taiHEN engine. So you want to buy a console? Well, you've hopefully come to the right place! Welcome to the first episode of this series in which I aim to dissect one console per episode and take that time to educate you all on any worthwhile features, any "GOTCHA!" moments to look out for, revision differences to keep in mind, and finally... Modifications! This series does not serve to be a "buying guide" in the traditional sense, so you will not get many peripheral or game recommendations from here. Optimally I want to show people why they might want to consider a certain older game console, and if they pick one up what they should look out for, as well as modifications they can perform in the future.
Why?! The interest is there! In 2017 my best performing video on this channel was a PS2 teardown/modification video, and I noticed that videos focusing on these older consoles were getting a considerable amount of views. Many people also told me they got so excited from these walkthroughs and tutorials that they went out and bought up these old consoles! Whether its practicality or nostalgia, I couldn't tell you for sure, but the interest is there! Even so, my biggest video of 2018 (and top performing video on the channel overall) has been a Xbox 360 video. Yes. 2018. Xbox 360. I can't make this up.

With new firmware updates comes a new build of PS3HEN as well as a new Hybrid Firmware (HFW) update! PS3HEN can easily be updated if your console is connected to the internet, but a new HFW update must be manually installed from a USB drive. This tutorial will show you how to update your PS3HEN console to a higher HFW update and reinstall the latest version of PS3HEN.
Although this tutorial was recorded with 4.86 all of the software needed has been updated to 4.89 meaning the steps will be the exact same. The only difference being a 4.89 HFW will need to be utilized as opposed to 4.86 HFW shown in this video. It is assumed you have already installed PS3HEN on your console and have the basic understanding of how to use it prior to watching this tutorial.
As a final warning directly from the PS3Xploit team themselves: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ENABLE FSM (Factory Service Mode) OR INSTALL CCAPI ON A PS3 WITH PS3HEN!

FreePSXBoot is yet another awesome softmod for the original PlayStation console which allows you to safely and easily boot up import and backup games like never before. No need to open up a console, pick up a soldering iron, swap discs with precise timing, block sensors, or look for a Parallel I/O cartridge to use UniROM with! Unlike the previous tonyhax softmod we looked at, FreePSXBoot relies only on a modified memory card and can be booted right from the BIOS Main Menu. Don't think we're leaving tonyhax behind, you can boot tonyhax using FreePSXBoot, no longer requiring a specific game to boot a modified save!
This involves restoring a custom made image for a PS1 memory card to a memory card of your own choosing. Although several methods exist for flashing an image to a PS1 memory card, the most accessible method people might have would be using a modified PS2. This tutorial will step through the process of using a PS2 to copy a memory card image from a USB drive to a PS1 memory card. This will also show how to use both variations of FreePSXBoot with UniROM and tonyhax. Finally, this will cover a method of uninstalling FreePSXBoot which should be accessible for many people out there!
It is important to note this does not work on EVERY console. The following consoles are confirmed to be compatible:
- Every European (PAL) PS1 Console
- Every North American (NTSC-U) Console
The following consoles are NOT compatible:
- Every Japanese (NTSC-J) PS1 Console
- Every PS2 Console
