I bought a Sony FDR-X1000V (you can get it used from Amazon for less than EUR 250) and tried to mount it on my Phantom 3 Standard. The image quality if much better, more details and better colors, but the steadyshot function, usually good enough for mountain bikes or helmet camera mountings, doesn't work with the strong vibrations of the copter. Using the warp filter of Adobe Premiere helps a bit, but it isn't as good as the gimbal camera. Needs a better mount.

A small piece from Samuil Majkapar for practicing staccato from a piano learning book. I still can't play it very well, but I don't like it anyway, so I had to record it to move on to better pieces :-)

Nothing special, but I developed the program without the PIC microcontroller, just the MPLAB simulator and it worked out-of the-box when I programmed the PIC :-)
See this article for full MPLAB project files, discussion (in German) and source code: http://www.mikrocontroller.net/topic/205559#2031666
I think the logarithmic table is a good beginning for the fading effect, but maybe should be modulated with a sine, for softer start/stop.

They have a free demo version, too. Should work with any cheap 2 axis analog joypad as well, if you don't have a good remote control like a Taranis. Just don't use the keyboard input.

Testing this Mushrooms audio file:

Scope: Voltcraft Oszilloskop 610
Sound card: RME Babyface USB sound card
Video recording: iPhone X
I used the WAV audio file with 192 kHz samplerate and played it with Audacity. You can download the wave file here:

I couldn't scale it to full size, because I have only 1:10 scope probes and there were some distortions in the audio output, so I had to attenuate it be 6 dB (half amplitude), and the x/y-mode has a fixed amplification for one axis. You can also notice that my sound card is AC coupled, e.g. at the beginning of the video if you compare it to the original video.
