Think the bands are dead and there's no DX? Here's the results of a trip to the beach this morning. Both contacts were to the USA on 20m. I was running 5w to an inverted L antenna.

Is it worth making a loop antenna to receive 160 metres if you already have a transmitting antenna?
A comparison between a Tee vertical antenna and a compact loop was made on two weak amateur AM signals.
One antenna consistently exhibited a better signal to noise ratio, even on a consumer-grade receiver.
Find out which one won by watching this video and whether it's worth building a loop.

Some listening on a 160/80/40m receiver that may become a transceiver. Most of the circuitry is from the Bitx20 http://kambing.ui.ac.id/onnopurbo/orari-diklat/teknik/homebrew/bitx20/bitx20.pdf For the DDS VFO I used the N3ZI module. https://www.pongrance.com/

Don't have a 20 - 50 MHz receiver? Well if you have an old Australian VHF TV tuner you can still receive signals with the help of a 20 - 50 MHz magnetic loop like the SummerLoop II. Here's how!

Seen a great circuit but it's not on the band you want?
Is it possible to convert it?
The answer is usually yes, but there's a few catches on the way.
Watch this series of videos to find out how you can modify published QRP designs to operate on the band you want.

A very simple but very good bidirectional horizontally polarised loop antenna for VHF. I use it on 144 MHz WSPR with some great results.
