PractisimVR Update #35 - USPSA Stage from Area One 2017, Tutorial Assistant
Week #35. Trying to rebuild the Tutorial system but came up with a tutorial assistant instead for now. You can enable it and it'll show you which buttons to press to start the game, or unload and show clear. Hope it helps new players. Will think about a full tutorial sometime in the future. This week's stage comes from last year's Area One Championships in St. George Utah. This is stage two, Bridge the Gap. A fun stage where shooters have to stand on planks to shoot.
Changelog v0.47 * New USPSA Stage from Area One * Simple Tutorial Assistant * Lighting improvements in main menu * Movement Restrictions removed from all stages * Fixed tutorial video
Was a fun match today. The Custer Sportsmen's Club organized a match inspired by the upcoming Area-1 stages which was really interesting. It was a very close match against a buddy of mind JohnV from TN, we were trading 5-10points throughout the entire match until the last stage which became the deciding stage. JohnV edged out a better performance to win by 6 points total. Congrats on getting $1 richer ;)
This match was a mental match for me. I told myself to ignore everything bad and good that will happen. Leave the stage as is and move on. I was trying to get into a place where I can focus on shooting and not let anything affect me, especially worrying about my times, scores and the need to catch up to someone else.
Although I didn't win the match and was slow in some stages, I am proud to say that I've learned how to get into the zone and shut everything out. Now all I need to do is to trust that this works and shoot my best game every time. (Thanks Steve Anderson)

Flew down to St. George, Utah this past weekend to shoot the 2017 Berry's Steel Open Championship. It's a hybrid match with three major disciplines combined. Steel Challenge, Dynamic or Time plus/Tuesday Night Steel and Scramble or Par-time/proam style courses.
Came in 9th overall Open division and had a great time shooting this all steel match. Utah was beautiful and the range was fantastic. Looking forward to returning to St. George to shoot the Area 1 Championships in a month.

Level up your steel game. Two ways to shoot a Texas Star.
First is the safe & predictable way. You wait for the targets to come to your sight and ambush them.
Second is riskier but much faster. You move your gun to chase targets, and if your transition is on point, you'll nail all targets in almost half the time. This method gets far more riskier the further out the star is.

Finally got to shoot a USPSA match after a whole month. There aren't a lot of clubs open during winter which is understandable, but the season is starting up which is really exciting.

Fun season opener at Marysville Rifle Club. It was wet but luckily not too bad. Still trying to work up my speed again after the winter break.

Gorgeous day to go out shooting. One of the last few matches before it gets cold and gray. Some stupid lapse in concentration yielded in some mikes and noshoots.

I can sum up my performance (or lack of) due to one thing. Lack of confidence. We started on Stage 4, and after getting a miss on two consecutive stages, I lost all confidence in my shooting ability and slowed down unnecessarily hoping to get my hits. My overall time was 2-3 seconds slower than all the other Masters in the match. I should have shaken the feeling off and shot the match like I could have.
Every stage after the first two, I thought too much about getting my hits and stressed over it. I have to learn how to let go. That and getting a total of four misses and two no-shoots (on the last stage), didn't do well for my placement.
That said, Keith Tyler and gang put up a fantastic match in a gorgeous range. Every bay has it's own covered area where we can relax in the sun and hydrate. Also, thanks to Omar Newbury and Larry Watson for running the squad through all the stages.
