Radar Sensors from $3 to over $100: Which one is Best?
Lately, many radar sensors have become available for relatively cheap prices. In this video, I will give you an overview of what is available and how they compare. And, of course, we will have a look into how they work and test a few of them. After viewing this video, you should be able to choose the right sensor for your needs. And you should know which are overpriced.
Synchronizing, saving, and sharing data, emails, and contacts under our control based on open-source software? Securely accessing our home network from everywhere in the world based on the most modern Virtual private Network technology? With just a Raspberry Pi? Yes, we want it!
Today we will install NextCloud and Wireguard on our Raspberry Pi and make it work together. You will save a lot of time using the tricks presented in the next few minutes. And we will use IOTstack.

A picture says more than a thousand words. This is why the world is moving away from text to images and videos. We, as Makers, can profit from this movement because we get dirt cheap hardware to play with. And if it works with an ESP32, even better. Time for a closer look.
I am a proud Patreon of GreatScott, Electroboom, Electronoobs, and others.
In this video I will:
- Compare the features of the four boards
- Try to get all of them working. Here we will see that we have to overcome the usual obstacles
- Try to use the new class of I2S MEMS microphones presented in my last mailbag. Two of the modules have such a microphone included
- Try out two sorts of camera lenses

Several technologies exist to connect electronic components. In this video, I want to add a nearly forgotten technique of the 1970 and 1980s: It is called wire wrapping and is a reliable and simple method to connect our Arduino, ESP8266, or ESP32 projects.

If your soldering station does not work anymore it is possible that you have to replace the heating element. I show here how you can diagnose and replace it if necessary.

In this video, I do a first test with this brand new module. It is well suited to build GPS trackers for logistics applications. Together with an ESP8266, an ESP8285, or an Arduino Pro Mini you can build such a tracker for less than 15 dollars.
There is also a small introduction into antennas.

Wireless mesh networks are fascinating because they adapt to changing situations and can bridge longer distances than point-to-point connections. Today we will have a look into the standard Zigbee mesh technology, learn its pros and cons, and compare it with Wi-Fi and LoraWAN networks.
Mesh networks are a little anarchic, and maybe this is why they are fascinating for many free-thinking Makers. But is this true? To find this out, we will:
- Compare mesh networks with star or “hub-n-spoke” networks
- Look at the different roles in a mesh network
- Look at the pros- and cons of a mesh structure
- Enable a Raspberry Pi and a cheap USB dongle to act as a network coordinator
- Find a way to chart the network for analysis automatically
- Try out various network constellations and see if and how it adapts
- Connect the network to Node-Red
- And glimpse into other mesh networks
