The Three Stooges in Brides is Brides - Arcade (1984)
Sorry about the length, but really...would you play it longer? It's a very limited dodge-and-collect game with very little in the way of offense you can actually use. If an enemy is going to punch me 50% of the time I try to punch them, I'm not going to punch them. Nor am I going to get anywhere near them. And if I can't get anywhere near them, there's really no safe place to be. Which isn't fun. Which means 3 minutes tops.
What's weird is that I can see a situation where a chaotic game of pies and rubber mallets being kind of fun. Something like an SNK game with some Kunio elements and a mad dash to achieve a goal in an arena? That sounds like fun. This isn't. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZOhx80whxU
This looks fun, but it's not. It's frustrating more than anything else due to the very cramped areas you have to navigate. At first I thought this might have taken a rotary joystick, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't. Just a standard joystick. Which makes no sense. The streets are tight, you hardly ever want to move in the direction you shoot, strafing would actually make the game playable, random clipping happens even when you shouldn't be clipping into anything, and enemies/bullets can randomly spawn in the weirdest places.

NES Batman, this is not. It actually plays more like a Spider-Man game due to the grappling hook, but that's not saying much since Spidey games were always kind of rough back then. It's hard. Stubbornly hard. It's not the kind of hard that feels impossible to overcome, it's the kind that you figure out as you go along. If you can get the feel of the swings down, you'd do a lot better than most. I'm pretty sure the cape glide is supposed to be a little more vital to the gameplay, but it doesn't seem to work reliably. The death pits are easily the thing I hate the most about this.

The original, but sometimes it's best to let the past stay in the past. If you like your fighting games slow and stiff with special moves that barely ever work with 2 character on the roster...then yes. Go for it. It's so weird to see a game with so much borrowed DNA feel to dramatically different from what you're familiar with.

Because no one knew who Michael Owen was in the US, the women got their shot to be on the cover. This is a great thing, but also a pretty typical thing when it comes to opportunities for women in sports. It's kind of sad that 20 years later, women still have to be extremely assertive to be taken seriously. Even picking it up without knowing any better, you just knew this was a reskin of something and sure enough it was.
Unfortunately, the game isn't all that perfect. and doesn't really assert itself in the gameplay department. It's passable and just fine, but nothing special. I actually didn't realize that my passing was kicking until pretty late in the game because no button really felt all that distinct despite my really trying to mess with the controls a lot.

Not really what you think about when it comes to Godzilla, huh? It's a port, but still...not quite the beast. It's an interesting puzzle game, but frustrating for me because I have no patience. The ability to backtrack is just something I'm not down with, but....OK yeah it's fine.

Vic Tokai really did have a thing for anime, huh? I need to look into that some day.
The presentation in this game is just phenomenal. I'm surprised I've never seen this game before. It's rare that a game is just flat out new to me, but here we are. It really shows off what the Genesis could look like in the right hands and with the right style game. For having a limited palette, anime just looks good on this system. Something about the bright colors and how it handles shading for that style.
The game is just as good, although it's very difficult. I stumbled across a string of hidden lives in stage 2, but I wonder if that's just because they know the stage will be really hard. Because it is. The game gets crowded as is, and having a narrow path to follow just makes it harder.
Thankfully, there's only one alternate formation. Your partner shoots forward or backwards and that's it. And I'm fine with that or this would be super confusing to play.

It's weird because I hate this game, but I could honestly give it high marks for so many things. It's clear that there is a pattern an execution that must happen for each event. This is why I faulted my way through everything, because it's one of those games that doesn't want you to freestyle...it wants you to perfect the motions. The graphics are outstanding for 1986 and even pretty good for 1989 when this game was ported. The variety of events is pretty neat, too. It's just that...it's not fun. I don't want dial-a-victory, I wanna play a game.
