Hi folks! Welcome to my new video series 'Love Is Contagious: The Livestream Covideo Series.' These performances are ripped from live home concerts I've been doing on Facebook. There will be a lot more to come. If you want to actively watch or just put the music on in the background for a daily life soundtrack, either way, enjoy!

This is a little piece that Pamela London put together as a retrospective of the Waldorf Hotel on Westminster right next door to Groundworks Coffeehouse where I often perform. I'm feature in this sweet Venice retrospective doing "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" and later on, "Sultans Of Swing."

"Sleigh Ride" is a light orchestra standard composed by Leroy Anderson. The composer had the original idea for the piece during a heat wave in July 1946 and finished the work in February 1948. According to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) review of Christmas music, "Sleigh Ride" consistently ranks as one of the top 10 most-performed songs written by ASCAP members. ASCAP named "Sleigh Ride" the most popular piece of Christmas music in the U.S. in 2009–2012, based on performance data from over 2,500 radio stations.
Minor 3rd to Major 3rd is the one little piece that does everything you need to sound authentically 'bluesy.' Here, I go into a quick note about IV7 to I7 and how it relates to this particular Blues convention. Also, I discuss the idea that in order to get a more sophisticated Blues sound going, you cannot merely go by a global pentatonic scale and that's that. You have to pay mind to each chord in a Blues progression and deal with it in a bluesy way. At the end, I discuss the 12 major triad shapes on the guitar and offer up a chart and an exercise to develop an eye for seeing the roots, 3rds and 5ths of a chord...anywhere on the neck of the guitar.

Happy holidays to one and all! James and I are taking a look at the White Album in general and specifically the lovely song, "I Will." One of a few things I forgot to mention in this podcast is that the twangy lick in I Will was lifted and used by The Cars in their song, "My Best Friend's Girl." This was a truly fun discussion. I look forward to another year of presenting more detailed looks into the brilliant music of the Fab Four.

I have here cued up a comparison of the lick in I Will to that of the Cars' My Best Friend's Girl:

A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
Understanding how modes mix together by virtue of the same root is a very useful composer's tool, and provides a map for what scales to use when improvising.
